I paid £25 to get my existing EPC in the new format as the ofgem system can only read data off the newer EPC.

Also I thought they cost more than £75 ?

So you just updated your EPC not got a new one. standard epc cost £50-£75 standard GDAR £100-£125. So its just an extra £50 on a EPC to save the extra hassle

I have a fairly large property and was told that I would need roughly a 10kw heat ground source heat pump. Only problem is, whilst I do have a large garden I would need approx 42m length garden to run all the slinkies piping 1m under the soil.

Has anyone else had problems having sufficient ground space for a larger sized heat pump installed?

I had an air source heatpump installed as I knew I hadn't got enough garden to install the ground collector and I doubted that it would have been economical to install boreholes for it either.

Ours is an 11kw unit and does a good job on our 140m2 bungalow. Uses about 4-4500kwh a year for our heating and hotwater. We use about another 3500kwh a year for all our other electrical needs.

To clarify, your unit consumes approx 4500 kwh per year in electricity? And there is no other supplementary heating or boiler system?

How well does the system cope during winter months ESP with snow etc? Have you had any repair costs? Do you mind sharing your installer and unit manufacturer?

    Thx.

Sounds about right, 4500 multiplied by a COP of 3ish gives 13,500kWh space heating requirement... for that floor area that sounds about right.

But agreed, not so sure how well that will work at more extreme cold temperatures, maybe lucky that last winter was a mild one?

Coefficient of performance. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coefficient_of_performance .

Note that manufacturer COP and actual achieved COP are very different things! There was a survey done by EST about this: http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Generating-energy/Choosing-a-renewable-technology/Air-source-heat-pumps/Recommendations-from-our-heat-pump-field-trials
