I don't mind eBaying, but I find that I do need a break from it from time to time, otherwise it can be a bit of a grind. In recent weeks I've only been listing 3 - 4 things a week, mainly the jigsaws, so I'm ok with the current increase in listing.
But I couldn't eBay at this level every week, that would be too much for me
It's quite a pleasant morning here. We've been for a walk, and have a load of washing out on the line. It's supposed to rain later, so hopefully it'll dry ok.
I've started to think about plans for next year. I won't be doing much in the way of saving, so I'm planning to overhaul our savings accounts. I've been a bit lazy with that, and I know that some are not on very good rates anymore.
From reading the boards, some current accounts offer a good interest rate. so I was planning on opening a few.
Then I had another thought - although both of our credit files are squeaky clean, next year we'll both be on a low income, so I think we'd struggle to get a new current account.
So I'll have to address this sooner rather than later.
I'm planning for us both to open a couple of accounts where there's a joining bonus (like M&S), and then we'll have a couple of 'spare accounts for switching at some point in the future. Or in my case, an account for any Matched Betting I might do
Also, we'll both open a couple of accounts where there's no requirement for any monthly DD's, but with a decent rate of interest.
I know that there's some people on the Bank account boards who cycle the same £1000 through about 20 accounts each month.
But I'm not going to be that hard core about it for a couple of reasons.
1) Mt Goldie is a little uncomfortable about having several bank accounts. ( he had one current account with Midland Bank and no savings accounts when I met him, and if he had his way, he'd revert back to that!)
2) After many years working in the finance industry I know that cycling money through several accounts looks like the 'layering' stage of money laundering. i.e. passing it through several accounts to disguise it's original origins. And that makes me feel uncomfortable!
So it'll be just a couple of interest bearing current accounts for the time being.
In a couple of years when our income increases, we can maybe add a couple more to the mix.
So plan for this week.
Get as much stuff on ebay as possible, to start at a future date, then I can make the listings live when it suits me.
Then, next week, I'll make a start on Project Current Account.

Glad you're feeling a little better Goldie.
Shame about RM surveys, hopefully they'll need folks In your postcode area soon.
We're doing similar with current accounts. It's worth knowing the M&S only give you the incentives once, so you can't open a joint account and a single one and get an incentive for each. We're looking for one to swap Mr Hbbb's current to but I've recently swapped to M&S so can't use them again!
Glad you've got your listings underway. I got an email about it to and got as far as sorting out a pile of stuff but I've done nothing more with it as Mr Hbbb brought a belly bug home for the weekendI'll try to do some before it runs out on Tues!
Hope you have an easy week. xStash busting 2014 45 / 60 (balls of yarn)!

Morning Goldie! There's another reason to have more than one current account - with the glitches in bank software recently, if you don't have access to your money when you want it, you can be really badly stuck. Most of my accounts are online, but they're all connected to the single current account; so I recently re-activated an old current account lying dormant (that I started up because of matched betting originally!) and I'm in the process of getting a card for it. I'll have a hundred or so in there anyway, for m.b. purposes, so it'll suit me well, as backup in case my ordinary current account bank has problems.
Sorting out my savings accounts is on my list too2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hello everyone!
Bit later than planned today, due to the spam infestation, and I don't think sorted out now - my siggy is still gobbledygook!
A really rainy morning this morning and it still seems to be raining slightly now.
A fairly average weekend eBay - wise. My Goldie's camera sold for the princely sum of £4.19, and my friends sunglasses for £1.99. Also sold 3 jigsaws for less than I hoped. But I've got two really nice jigsaws finishing this evening, and I have high hopes!
I took the camera to the My Hermes parcel shop by car, and I've been hoping for the rain to stop so I can walk down the post office with the other parcels. But I'm fed up waiting, so I'm going to jump in the car shortly.
Did some housework this morning and I'll do more eBay listing this afternoon.
My current account opening strategy has already changed. I was vaguely thinking the likes of M&S would just give me money for opening an account - I didn't realise it was a switching thing! We have two bank account with Hx, which we are very happy with, so we don't want to switch them. So I'm just going to concentrate on the interest bearing current accounts. We have savings with various providers, but as KC says, it'll be good to have immediate current account access to alternative accounts if Hx has problems
Hope Mr Hbbb is better soonEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Sorted my siggy out now - for info if anybody else is having problems, you just need to edit the signature slightly, save it, and it'll appear as normalEarly retired - 18th December 2014

I'm feeling a bit punch drunk from too much eBaying, I prepared about 10 listings this afternoon, and I've still got more to do.
My spare room looks like it does just before it does when I'm going on holiday, with piles of clothes everywhere.
I've told my friend she is funding my retirement!:rotfl:
My nice jigsaw auctions finished this evening, not quite as high as I'd have liked, but there was a flurry of last minute bidding, so that was encouraging.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Not long to go now :T (have decided to retire vicariously through you if that's all right
)

There's quite a few pithy, wonderful comments on the forum tonight. I like that one, GG2023: the year I get to buy a car0

No problem! although time goes quickly and it'll be your time soon.
I'm looking forward to reading about a rash of retirements in a few years time!
It's a fairly gloomy day here, although not actually raining yet.
I'll be doing housework type things this morning, then more eBay prep this afternoon.
I'm popping out for a while to the shops.
H&B have sent me my quarterly points voucher, for £1.50. It must be an introductory offer, as I didn't actually use my card to buy anything. I know I said I'd given up on H&B, but I know they have some low sodium vegetable stock cubes, so I'm going to use my voucher to buy some.
I am going to buy Mr Goldie's birthday card in WHS, as I have a 25% off greetings cards voucher.
My Hx Reward account does some limited cash back offers. It's a strange scheme, you are offered cash backs on mostly random retail outlets that you don't use, and have to accept the offer to make it live. So, when you get an offer on a place you can actually shop at, you feel compelled to use it!
I have a 5% cash back offer for WHS, so I've hit on the idea of buying a batch of postage stamps(always needed for eBay), to get the cash back.Early retired - 18th December 2014
