It was £2.99, which I thought was quite good, plus postage. (I got 45p cashback from £Co.) I have a feeling I'll be doing this again, it was fun to do

I love Moonpig as i'm so lazy when it comes to choosing cards.. :D

If you intend to use it a lot then it's worth prepaying, you pay £20 onto your account and you get £25 worth of credit, it means you get one free card and postage (with a few pence extra).

You can still get your cashback through quidc0..
    Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.

That's interesting, thanks for letting me know. I've got a few birthday cards in the drawer to use up, but after that, I have a feeling I'll use Moonpig more often, so that's handy information to know.

We went to the garden centre on Saturday morning, and bought a few more flowers, but the selection there wasn't exactly awe inspiring. I think we'll end up going back to Dobbies for the remainder of the plants the we need.

The garden is coming along nicely - all the shrubs and borders are neat and tidy, we've reseeded patches in the lawn, the spaces are getting planted up. We're not doing too much with 'growing our own' this year as we are away for a couple of weeks in late August, but we have planted some tomatoes and courgettes, plus our blueberry plant looks like it'll do well this year.

Our experiment in chair painting is also going well. Both chairs are painted, and now await waxing. But they look great so far

We went out for the day yesterday, on a coach trip to the Isle of Wight. It was a long day - we left our house at 6.30am, and got back at 10.30 pm. But very worth it. We took our own food, and the highlight was eating our lunch on a comfortable rock on the beach at Alum Bay. We took the chair lift down to the beach. We did that 30 years ago, and it's still quite a scary experience!

Even though we took our own food, we still spent £28 on the day, what with chair lift tickets, extra coffees and coach driver tips. It would have been really expensive if we'd had to buy food too,

But I have received a little money I wasn't expecting. I've got a number of Lloyds shares from when I worked at the Halifax. They've lost so much money, but are gradually beginning to pick up a bit. I got a dividend of £56 from them today, which reminded me to check last years dividends. As a result, I've been able to transfer a total of £95 from my 'cash' account of my Share Dealing Account. The money should hit my bank account in 3 working days. The funds will go towards holiday spending.

Hurrah for the extra cash. What a lovely surprise.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Excellent! Good to hear about the Isle of Wight too - I've never, ever been there, and I'd really like to go.

Amazingly, I've 'found' a bit more money!

Mr Goldie had just over £300 in various old savings accounts.

[strike]He[/strike] I have closed the accounts, and added the money to the holiday spending account.

The chairs we painted have now been waxed and are back in their place in the bedroom with the new cushions on them. They look great - I'm delighted with them.

In a few years time, when it's time to decorate the living and dining rooms, we'll give serious consideration to painting the existing furniture for a completely new look. We'd probably need to get a few replacement items, like new dining room chairs and more than likely the carpet will need to be replaced by then, but we'd also consider getting the sofas re-covered.

I've paid for the August cruise today. If we'd known we were going away for another long holiday next February, we wouldn't have booked this August cruise - but what's done is done, so we're just going to enjoy it

My £95 for the share dividends was paid into our current account today - this has been put towards holiday spending.

I've started some savings pots for the following things

Cutting back shrubs - we seem to be having this done every year

Dentist - due to Mr Goldie ALWAYS needing things done!

Sofa/furniture - more long term, but the living room and dining room will need some replacements at some point.

S&S Isa - I do want to open one this year, maybe putting some money by each month will get me to take action

I've never really been one for individual savings pots, as we've generally taken money from the one large (well not THAT large) pot when things need to be paid for

But for these types of things, it will seem less painful to have some money earmarked when the time comes to pay out.

This time it's a bit more close to home. We're going to Guernsey, Ireland and Scotland.

I'm looking forward to especially Scotland, as most of the places we're going to are new to me.

We went to Dobbies again for the last lot of flowers and they had a fantastic selection today, all ready for the weekend.
