Have a great day GG , we went last year as there was a mini show on outside, there is a good little museum there as well as the bus one
It was a very nice day out and we were lucky with the weather too.
There were a lot of buses on show, including some old ones. As it was a bus gathering, our tour coach parked with all the exhibits, and all the enthusiasts were taking pictures of it!
In the Brooklands Museum, in the bike section, I saw the moped that my dad had in the 60's. It's strange that things from my childhood are now museum pieces!
Earlier today, I was rummaging on the kitchen cupboard, to check that I had a spice for something I'm cooking later in the week, and I realised that it had got really cluttered.
For about 3 years we've been keeping jars for jam making..... and the jam making hasn't happened and isn't going to - we don't eat much jam anyway!
I kept 6 for marmalade making, which we do already ( and eat), and one for my home made mayonnaise. The rest have gone into recycling. I've now been able to free up a whole shelf, and my herbs and spices are stored in alphabetical order, so I can find them easily. Which gives me much joy.
Just shows, decluttering needs to be on-going. In the next week or so, I'll be going through the 'paperwork' box, which seems to be overflowing. I think it was all the bank accounts that I opened. I kept all the info booklets, which I've never looked at, so I think most of them can go. It's never ending!:rotfl:Early retired - 18th December 2014

The Brooklands visit sounds amazing, with a lot of exhibits too.
Interesting about the jam pots - I made some seedless jam last year, as I don't like whole blackberries in jam, and since the jam was quite thing, and I don't eat bread anyway, I use it as a sauce over a plate of newly heated frozen veg- works for me
I also want some because I'm going to work at making my own salsa verde from foraged greens - I was noticing the bramble and hawthorn leaves just today!

Good thing you mentioned salsa, as I remembered there's a couple of salsa recipes in my 'Meniere Man' cookery book that I want to try, so I rescued a couple of jars from recycling. I can see how a blackberry sauce would work with veg - after all, fruit is often eaten with meals, like gammon and pineapple.
Your salsa verde sounds interesting - soon you'll have all the time in the world to experiment on things like that:)
Today is the end of my financial month, and it's been a long old month too. Five weekly supermarket shops, an Asda 'stock up' shop, and two coach trips have been booked, along with other sundry purchases. But the good news is we've spent just £7 more than we earned (apart from holidays!). I'm pleased with that result.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hello,
I have done the washing out and collecting jam jars, in,y to throw them away later, several times now! Glad it is not just me!Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

Today I've put a load of empty vitamin tablet containers into recycling, I think there's something inbuilt that makes us keep things 'just in case'I had to go and buy lots of jam jars last year - people don't often return their empties and my stocks had all been used up!
That's annoying, having to buy jam jars!Love this diary and the photos. And congratulations on achieving the dream from the start
We've taken the view that 'now' is the time to be doing the things we've always dreamed of, and there's no reason to wait. The sad news today of Victoria Wood's death today at only 62, is a reminder that we don't know what lies ahead.
Today we've been quite busy. We've power washed the patio. Considering we only did it last year, it's astonishing how much muck there was.
Also, ahead of our decorating and brightening up, I've ordered a pair of curtains for the spare room from Amazon, for only £17.35. Yesterday, I bought a wall sign from a stall at the local shopping centre. The sign reads 'Beach House', which reminds us of cruising, as there's a dining venue of the same name on the ships.
I'm looking forward to these little cosmetic changes to brighten the place up.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Yes, such sad news about Victoria Wood. She deserved more years.xPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!

The purchases sound good, Goldie. Victoria Wood's death spooked me a bit, I must say. Two of my grandparents died from environmental causes - mesothelioma being one, but apart from that everybody seems to live forever in my family ... this is a reminder that actually, people don't
Oddly, I took steps to ensure that the next few days are free for me - I could have booked them up, but chose not to. I'm pleased with that
