Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Ooh, didn't expect that last one! Very nice :)

I have such fond memories of my trip to Florida, it was mad busy but I loved packing it all in. The Vehicle Assembly Building brings back a day trip around the Centre before I watched a launch in the evening!

You were lucky to see a launch.

When we went to Florida in 1999, a launch was due while we were there. We booked a coach excursion to take us there - we were due to be picked up from the hotel in the middle of the night. But in the end, it never happened, as we had Hurricane Floyd instead! It was scary at one point, as the hurricane was heading straight for us, but fortunately for us it changed course at the last moment and went up the coast. We just had a very, very windy night.

We went to Florida in late 2007. OH and DS1 went to a launch and had to get up about 2am for it (DS1 was only 7 and was shattered) Myself, DD (then 9) and DS2 (then aged 21 months) packed and changed hotels - we caught a yellow cab, which was fab! :D

Thankfully the launch happened - OH said that even 10 mins before it was still only 50% likely to happen. (We caught it happening as we arrived at our new hotel - the taxi driver pointed it out to us) The weirdest thing was that on the coach sat behind OH and DS1 were some people who lived less than a mile away from us and the boy was the same age as DS1 - his best friend at school was DS1's best friend outside school (they'd known each other since babies (the mum and I went to school together) and are back at school together at secondary) Proving that it's a very small world - travel 000s of miles and find someone from a few streets away!! :D

I was, at that - I'd planned the holiday around it, but as you know, launches can be delayed at the drop of a hat.

The other stupendous piece of luck I had was that I met a rocket scientist at a science fiction convention, and she invited me to stay with her. She was working the launch, but a friend of hers drove me to the VIP area to watch it - we were with the astronauts' families, it was  :j and  at the same time!

It's a very small world. During our USA travelling years, we went to Los Angeles. On our first morning, at a small shopping mall near our hotel we had a coffee, and on the next table, there were a couple of people from Southend on Sea, only a few miles from where I grew up. We travelled 5000 miles, and the first people we meet are from down the road

Wow, not only were you lucky enough to see the launch, you saw it in the VIP area. That has to be up there with the best life moments!

Naturally, I would recommend the cruise, but I'd also warn you that it's addictive. We went on a cruise as a special treat for our 20th wedding anniversary.....fifteen years later cruising is still our number one holiday!

I had a letter from my pension administrators today - my pension goes up by £17.36 a month from April. All extra money is most welcome!

Tomorrow we're going on a coach trip to the London Bus Museum at Brooklands. This is of particular interest to Mr Goldie, as he wanted to be a bus driver when he grew up. We'll be taking a packed lunch, so should be a good day out
