You will find me very puerile, but this comment tickled me :rotfl:

Are you Finbarr Saunders from Viz magazine 'fnarr fnarr'? :rotfl:

Don't tell me you are too young to remember Viz!

But I'll remember what you said about buying music, although 'some nice to have' expenditure is going to be cut for a while..... for reasons given below.

I've just got myself a glass of water, as I've forgotten about that today :o. I know I said I was stepping back a little from MSE, but I really need to log in often for the sake of my health!
    :rotfl:

Weird sort of day, frequent showers, so it's really difficult to go out, as, after 5 minutes it's raining again.

But we have done 'something' today.

I was talking about cruises and Australia a few weeks ago, and we had put it on the backburner.

Well, the World Cruise brochure from our normal cruise company came out, and in 2017 they are going to most of the places we want to see in Australia and New Zealand. In other years, the routes vary, so this combination might not come up again for a few years.

After much discussion over the last few days, we've decided it's the right cruise, at the right time, so we've booked the Australia and New Zealand sector of the world cruise. :j:eek::T

In all we'll be away for about six weeks, so it's BIG.

This really is once in a lifetime stuff. It's costing a chunk of money, but it is all saved, waiting for an opportunity like this.

Now that we've booked it, we're elated - we'll see places we've dreamed about for years.

I'm putting this out of my mind for a while as we've still got the long holiday in February next year, so we want to plan for that and enjoy it to the max.

But we're reigning in some of our more 'discretionary' spending, in the hope of putting by some funds for spending, rather than using more or our savings.

We can't save much at the moment, but I'd like to make an effort.

I had a globe when I was a child, and used to love looking at all the countries, and never dreamed I would be able to travel to any of them. It really is an exciting time.

  • Sounds amazing Goldie. Good for you, there is no point waiting around for a trip like this. And lots of time to look forward to it!

    Good for you GG :)
Mr GG and I were talking about the house we're hoping to buy. He commented that if we didn't buy it we could have lots of expensive holidays. I said 'so if I say let's go to Thailand for 3 weeks then on to somewhere else would you do it?' 'Let's buy the house' he said :rotfl:
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I think we've all got different things that are important, and have to prioritise, as we can't do 'everything'.

A couple of months ago, when we were looking at Rightmove, it brought home to me how much I love living in this house, and I want to stay here as long as possible.

As property isn't our priority, we can turn our attention to the travel we want to do.

We have a potential purchase that we are looking into. We could do with a couple of new suitcases. Our current cases are very battered now, the wheels are very worn, and they are quite heavy. With a couple of long holidays coming up, we could do with a pair of cases that are a bit bigger and a bit lighter.

We've go 20% off at M&S later this week, and a £10 voucher, so we'll have a look there.

I've got a stock up Asda order being delivered tomorrow, so I'm hoping the weekly shopping will reduce in cost in the coming weeks.

Last week I phoned the coach company we use, to enquire about a trip to West End show. The were going to call me back, but haven't yet. If they don't call, I will leave it, as part of my mission to trim some spending, in the interests of having more holiday money.

The Australia cruise sounds amazing, what an experience!

  • Why not keep using the old cases to destruction? The lightweight nylon ones are very flimsy and I have seen quite a few damaged on the carousels at the airport. Although I have also seen some very lovely jazzy coloured ones that appeal to my consumer instincts....!

I used a trolley case to destruction last year, though I didn't realise - the wheels were so worn that the corner of the case dipped to the ground, and rubbed along the pavements for so long that it was "sanded" open!!! If that had happened when I was at the start of a 5 week trip, as opposed to getting back from a weekend ... big problems :rotfl:

Fab news on the next cruise :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
