It's an honour to be a role model, especially for people I greatly admire, who are putting much more effort into clearing their mortgages than I ever did!

I've not been doing much today, as it is very, very hot.

My only constructive action is to research phones, and all the options are mind boggling.

I'm fairly sure I'd go for an iPhone 5, with 8gb of storage.

But I'm pondering that amount of data that I want a month, bearing in mind I want to keep the monthly outlay to a reasonable amount. But I don't want the data to be so low that I'd be worried that I would run out, and be scared to use it! Maybe 1gb of data. You can connect the phone to the car sat nav to get traffic info, so I'll need more than the minimum data allowance

I'll be thinking over the next few days

I used to pay £35 for unlimited mins and texts and 1gb of data, think it was £6 for a second gb of data, I'm now £16 for the same as I chose not to get a new phone ... not sure if that helps you in anyway or not just wanted to give you an idea what I paid :)

The one I'm looking at is £27.50 for 1gb and unlimited calls and texts, so, in context, that doesn't seem too bad. I'd almost certainly keep the phone at the end of the contract (24 months), as I'm not worried about having the latest gadget, so there's potential for a lower payment and the end of it.

Thank you, Elantan, that helps with my pondering!

Currently looking at phone contracts for me and think we have considered the same deal :) Also pondering if the data allowance is sufficient.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

As I've never used the Internet on a phone before, in theory I should only need a small data allowance. But, once I get it, I don't want to restrict myself.

Thanks for that, I had a good look today. I can see that I'd be able to get what I was thinking of for a bit less, but the trouble is I'm not very mobile-savvy. I'm fact I'm a mobile numpty!

I'd LIKE to go the GiffGaff route, but I know I'm going to be much more comfortable going in store, telling them what I'd like, make my choice, and have them set the phone up. The all I need to do is walk out of the store with a working phone!

On this occasion, I think I'll pay a little more, but remain in my comfort zone!

:rotfl: teenagers are ideal for tech related things, but the downside is they eat you out of house and home, and cost a lot of money:rotfl:

But one of your teenagers would have been very handy today, as I took the plunge and upgraded my phone.

The chap at the shop was very helpful. He was quite surprised at my 'old' (5 years old, that's all!) phone, and was really gobsmacked when he saw my SIM card, as it's been transferred between phones since the 90's! I told him the SIM card was probably older than him!:rotfl:

So I walked out with a shiny new iPhone 5, stopped off at a cart on the shopping centre to buy a cover, then off home to play with it.

I'm quite impressed with my self - I've set up the email, got it on the wi-if, and I've got some of my music on it.

I must admit, I'm typing this on my iPad, as the phone is a bit small for typing, if there are other alternatives available.

We are going back to the Toyota dealership on Monday, as the saleman said he'd pair the phone with the car and show us how to use it with the sat nav etc.

I'll end up paying about £16.50 extra a month, but I needed to be dragged into 2015:rotfl:
