I understand about the car. Mine is maybe 17 years old - maybe only 5 years to me. I bought it cheap intending to keep it 3 to 6 months after an accident left me unable to use my left arm so I thought a cheap automatic was just the thing to get me to physio/hospital etc. And the car is still going strong! It doesn't cost much to maintain and I love it. I never worry about bumps and knocks because it has so many they don't show, the passenger window has had to be wired shut but hey these all add character :) I want it to last forever!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

That's another reason I love my current car. We've looked after it and it's in good condition for it's age, but I'm not 'precious' about it. I'm happy to park it in the street and go off on the train for the day, and don't give the car a second thought. When you have a new car, you don't like leaving it anywhere until you get used to it.

Anyway, we're doing the test drive tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

On the subject of grocery deliveries, I'll have to do what KC does, and mark that I don't want any substitutions.

To be fair to Asda, they didn't charge me any more for the subbed items - but I ordered Asda passata, which was low in price and low in salt. I was given a branded passata instead, and it has way too much salt for me. I'm going to pass it on to my friend.

We've been doing house insurance quotations this afternoon. John Lewis looks promising and they are over £200 cheaper than our current insurance.

You can refuse any substitutions on the spot and they'll take them back for a refund, sure they'd be patient enough for you to check a few labels as you have specific dietary requirements.

That cruise liner looked fantastic, give it 30 years and I'll give it a go :)

In a couple of years time a cruise would be ideal for the Ed family. They have children's clubs for all the different age groups and the kids simply love it :)

Well...... I seem to have purchased a new car:j:eek:

I went for the test drive, and loved it - it felt very comfortable and I felt very much at home.

I got a better price than I was expecting for my trade in, and I also was able to agree a £500 discount, so I was happy with what I was being offered, so I've put in an order.

However, the car won't be available until late June. It's not a problem, as we are in no rush, and I have time to get used to the thought of saying goodbye to my current car.

The salesman did try to sell me 0% finance. I'd get another £500 off if I took the finance. The salesman knew I had the cash, and suggested I could pit money in savings, to earn a bit of interest, and transfer money out each month for the payment.

However, at this point I've declined. I only have a small income now, and I couldn't see any responsible lender would want to lend me a large sum of money, with my low income level.

The salesman reckoned they'd lend to anyone..... But salesman do say things which aren't always true.

I've got the have 'the manager' phone me for a follow up interview. I must admit to being tempted by the 0% finance, as I would make it work in my favour..... But I couldn't stand the humiliation of being turned down for a loan:rotfl:

My mind isn't made up yet, I'll let you know what happens

But I am excited about the new car. We intend for it to last us a long time, so we have made sure it's the right one.

Yesterday we took delivery of a new bird table. Our current one has literally disintegrated. We've spent the afternoon assembling the new one and painting it with wood preserver, so it should be open for business tomorrow.

    Hi Goldie

Check the t&cs for the finance. If you can overpay or repay early without being charged it may be worth getting it for the discount and then paying it back straight away? I know what you mean about not wanting to be turned down though :o
