am I right in thinking I can top-up the initial payment with another £750 this month (and is it acceptable to do that by 'Faster Payments' from my linked account?) .

A minor note, as this is unclear - if you use the "pull money" feature from the newcastle BS website to get the money from your linked account, then this will appear as a direct debit, and takes a bit longer than a faster payment.

If you go onto the website of your linked account and send money to newcastle (remember the reference needs to identify your newcastle account), then that's a faster payment.

as above - - do you have a DD showing at your nominated account?
Just checked, no DD showing, and checking Newcastle, it still doesn't allow me to choose my nominated account to pull funds from.

Huh. You seem to have a weird one!
  • In my view Newcastle BS request a nominated bank account for the initial deposit and for possible transfer of funds from the Newcastle BS to your nominated bank account. In my case my opening deposit was made by linked Direct Debit and my subsequent April top up was made by faster payments. From May 2014 I intend to make deposits by means of a combination of Standing Order and Faster payments.

I opened a cash ISA last week and got a letter yesterday to confirm the account is open and my initial deposit has been received. Do I need to do anything to register for online services or do they sent the details in the post later?

Thanks for that. I need to check my letter again as I am sure there was no mention of a user ID.

There's no User ID on the letter with your account number on. I'm still waiting for a User ID to come through.

That's odd, because my first letter from them confirming I'd opened the account with them had both my account number and my User ID in it, as did OH's.
