OP, well done for trying to help your friend by seeking advice on here. She clearly has a particular path in mind and you may not be able to sway her.

I agree with your sympathy for this LL who has responded to a lot of repair issues and will find himself out of pocket to the tune of £1K or more.

In your shoes I'd wonder what else she expects others to take responsibility for e.g. pay off her debts, write her false reference for her ... not a great friend to have if she eventually tries to involve you in anything like this.
  • Nobody wins, LL is in a bad way though - my friend whom I now refer to in a very loose term advised that if she does get taken to court she'll pay back £5 per week for two weeks and then stop paying and wait for a return to court.

There's the answer to your original question / thread title...

Her attitude stinks - end of.

That's the problem.., most people wouldn't so they can't get inside the head of someone who does it as a matter of course. Always think they are 'winning' they just don't see that they are the losers as they lose far more than they gain.

SS's should be called in to be honest, but of course, the woman's daughter will love her mum, and it will hurt her. I know placements for kids with disabilities are very hard for SS's to find.

I would get social services in. A disabled girl having to live in a place polluted with dog waste is just wrong.

Quite agree. Sounds like perhaps the daughter deserves to be able to live with someone who is better able to look after her.

I'm amazed the LL has put up with her for this long.
  • Yes the LL has made their fair share of mistakes too and will pay the price.

I didn't realise the entire system was so easy to manipulate.

There'll be posters along in a minute to point out how badly the system is skewed in favour of the evil landlord, and how poor tenants always get the brown end of the stick, with not a thing they can do about it...

I think the system can be manipulated by either side.., if they are that type of person. Unfortunately.

Out of interest and apologies in advance for hijacking this thread but would the profile of this tenant not in general be one who would rent out a property for a prolonged period of time rather than changing annually.

This tenant is obviously a huge exception.
