I understand the critique regarding the compensation issue, what I fail to understand is that the gravity of this situation seems to have gone unnoticed by some.

    For example.

Hello Mrs Smith this is Asda delivery services here, I'm afraid we have had a problem with your order and it will not now be delivered on time, (The driver has lost the sheet don't forget), the reason for my call however is to re-arrange the delivery, can you tell me is there any time that you are NOT available for delivery and I will see if we can fit you in around that as we don't wish to inconvenience you.
    Mrs Smith
Well I'm not really happy we were going to use the custard tonight, but I have a doctors appt tomorrow and my husband is on shifts till 6pm how about the day after?

    Caller
That will be no problem at all I will make sure there is a little gift for you for being so understanding about our situation, thank you very much and bye.

Hi Biffer! Got one Mrs Smith 101 Mug avenue, house is empty till six take the big van! If they have a plasma it's mine we share the rest, no credit cards though they'll get us banged up for sure.

The information supplied is not the issue its the information + association + dishonesty + opportunity that is the risk! None of which were supplied by the op, they were all bar one supplied by Asda.

If I were of a mind to I could put this meagre amount of data and the above elements together and wreak havoc for the individuals on the list.

    despicable

"hello moron and thanks for your ridiculous PM. You idiotically and small-mindedly said that you would be extremely angry if your details were left by the asda delivery guy, yet all the information he holds is freely available in a million and one other places- like the PHONE BOOK. If your life is so empty and worthless that something like this is worth jeopardising some poor guy's job, whos working his balls off for £5.88 an hour, and can ill-afford to lose his employment- then you are truly the very definition of a loser.
You dont have the decency, moral compass or integrity to see that your viewpoint is obscence and that you seriosuly need to get a life.
Sorry for the angry tone of this message but you have !!!!ed me, and others off with your attitutde"

The above is a lovely pm sent to me by Masherano

Thanks for the lovely pm. Just wanted to know why I was despicable.

I am ex directory so my info is not found in a phonebook. I'm pretty sure also that last time I checked Mobile numbers are not found in the phone book, yet I had a list of these on my sheet.

If I make a mistake in my job I would be informed of it. I didn't realise that Asda drivers should be immune from this but I now know for next time.

Thanks for upholding the friendly ethos of this site!!!!

    Plumpmouse,

Can I just, as an impartial viewer of this thread, be the first to applaud your method of dealing with an abusive message? Whether this is an ethical, consumer advice or otherwise board may be debated ad nauseum - one thing that is certain is that abuse/spam/offensive/illegal/racist or libellous posts are not welcome.
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

  • Ben500.....Have to say "Here Here."

If I was in OP's situation I would ring Asda's, explain that people do make mistakes but that you are unhappy about this because the list could have been left with someone unscrupulous and something like the above situation (as described by ben500) could have happened. It's not good, people make mistakes, but errors do at times need pointing out. If they offer something as a thankyou then all well and good but I wouldn't ask for compensation. I do sometimes feel a bit peeved when I have spent my time and money on a call that I shouldn't have to make, so I sort of understand why someone might want to ask for compo, though sweetener isn't a word I would use.
