Really don't think that I would touch one with a "barge pole" especially as it has a lot of Renault parts in it, if my experience of having owned two Renaults previously is anything to go by. I would imagine that if you are prepared to spend £15k on a motor, why not look for a one year old car with low mileage, at that price I think you could get some interesting wheels. You can still get a three year warranty on them.

I would agree here. £15K buys you a lot of car, and given most cars suffer 25% easy loss first year, you could buy yourself a year old car that cost well in excess of £20K, which opens a lot of options.

A Sandero looks like value though, or a Stepway.

Just to clarify, while it still is finger in the air before residuals are solid after enough cars have went through the age cycle, 34% of list after 36 months is very, very good. That kind of enshrined guesswork (which will turn into reality) is what allows lease plans, pcps etc., to be drawn up and fit the range into future forecourt prices.
I'd love to buy the most basic one and put it through the mill, but I know it wouldn't be genuine as no one would actually use it.
  • To me a Dacia whether brand new or used is about as desirable as an old shoe.

You'd be better off with. Yugo.

Zastava Yugo, the copy car that was even worse than the original. Not exactly Dacia territory.

I am sure a lot of people think that way about the Polo you are thinking of getting, but each to their own.

Also i think Dacia dont aim to be an object of desire, they aim to be functional and cheap, and with starting prices roughly half that of a Polo, i think they've succeeded.

I once sold one for £95 with 40K miles and 6 months MOT.

It had an engine fault though - it rattled like a bagful of spanners after you drove it 5 miles - the guy who bought it lived two miles from work, so result all round.
  • Why have a Dacia Duster when there is something nicer like a Tiguan out there? Surely a 2nd hand Tiguan has more desirability than a Duster?

I mean fancy a car having the same name as that feathered thing in my under stairs cupboard :D

Again, you're missing the point. A lot of people arent that badge concious or feel a "desire" towards a car that they "must have" a big brand car.

Or worse still, buying a car with the same name as a cheap mint.

Touche about the mint. But polos are sweet :)

I guess I ways look to how sellable a car is when it's time for me to upgrade. I just can't see a Dacia as something folk would be after. I imagine they would depreciate quite rapidly after 1 year?

I guess I am speaking from my own point of view though as for 2nd hand I'd look for a decent Audi or VW or merc. Maybe even a Vauxhall or CMax

    What an incredibly strange post.

You were the one who decided I probably drove a merc, or a BMW etc purely because I mocked your deathtrap, ancient Lupo you insist on preaching to everyone about.

I've never shown any such pretentions regarding my car. Its a bog standard, boring saloon car albeit with all the toys inside. It was my company car, I bought it at just over 1 year old from my old employers when I left at well below market value (I wouldnt have bothered otherwise). I will sell it when the warranty runs out and probably take my company car allowance to get a new motor from my current job.

It's a run of the mill, uninspiring car but it's a million miles superior (not even comparable in fact) to the heap of junk you seem to think makes you an expert on all things motoring. I could drive a Dacia Sandero and still be in a position to rip you to shreds for that thing you drive.
Of course it's a million miles superior to my heap of junk death trap and I've never doubted that. You are pretentious, and you are a snob and I'm merely highlighting that. You clearly think that any car older than yours is a heap of junk death trap. You made your feelings clear in that Manufacturers thread where you basically made comments regarding vehicles older than yours. I'm not the only person on this board that drives an older car. Not all of us can afford a new one.

Unfortunately my friend, I don't get the opportunity to buy a company car. My company pay me mileage only (albeit well over what I actually pay for fuel), so the vehicle I drive is up to me. If I could buy a new company car at 'well-below' market value then of course I'd be in something newer you wally. As such, I'm a young professional, I have to be careful with money and my vehicle is representative of what I can afford juxtaposed with reliability, fuel economy, ease of maintenance (knowledge of car), and comfort (yes, it's a surprisingly comfortable car).

You could be in a Dacia Sandero? You wouldn't be seen dead on one you pretentious clown. You've quite clearly got a massive superiority complex regarding your car and that comes through in the majority of threads.

Oh... and by the way, the interior, exterior, engine etc on my Lupo is a million times better made than my mates Dacia Sandero, he'll quite happily admit that.

I don't think I'm an expert on most things motoring, but I'm someone who does a LOT of miles (more than you???), I'm young, I'm money sensible and yes, I'm a working professional, so I would consider myself in a half decent position to give an opinion yes. Doesn't make me an expert, but you don't have to be an expert to give an opinion my friend.
