Spendy day today as I bought some lettuce and tomato plants - £4 for 12 red lettuces and 12 green lettuces means we are covered for salad greens the whole of the summer and into the autumn - better than paying up to £1 for a single lettuce!

Quietly seething at present. I read the electricity and gas meters and input the readings online. With the "thanks for your readings" message came the news that the barstewards propose to put my direct debit up from £137 a month (which is eye-watering enough) to...wait for it....£208 a month, a rise of 51%!!!!!!
I telephoned them and gave them my views on the subject, and they are going to look at my usage again and review the payment. I know the account currently has a debit balance (it's a fixed rate tariff paid by monthly direct debit, so sometimes there's a debit balance and sometimes a credit one, but it generally works out even over the year) but we are now in Spring, and whilst our electricity usage is much the same over the year, the gas consumption drops drastically by the summer, so why increase my payment now? And by such a huge amount? Do these people live on the same planet as the rest of us? Do they seriously think families can afford these huge rises?
We are not overly extravagant with the heating, the thermostat is never higher than 20 degrees even in winter, so what's going on?
They have promised to contact me next week - hopefully, if an increase in payment is needed, a more sensible one will be proposed. Otherwise I will be switching suppliers.

Rant over, folks, you can get back to what you were doing......

NSD #9 and a 7-in-a-row for me. But I'm already compiling a shopping list of second hand CDs on Amaz0n ready for next Tuesday (next planned spend day) ;)

Whereas I always end up fighting the other way around.... every time I put readings in they DROP my monthly payement to a level that means I'd have no credit left in 10 or 11 months, and then my payments would have to jump up by more than they're trying to drop them by. So far I've always succeeded in getting them to reinstate to the previous level, which means that if we have a bad bad winter I shouldn't end up with a big debit balance I have to try and clear. In all the years I've been with them (12 now) I've only had to phone and ask for a reduction once, and that after my hubby passed away after I'd already negotiated an increase to cover extra heating he needed. They tried to drop me from £79 to £59 at the start of this month, but it's back at the £79 in time for the next D/Debit :) I have exactly the same problem with the water company trying to reduce my payments (on a meter) which isn't good given DS1 will suddenly decide to have a run on using the bath instead of shower (like this week having restarted Thai boxing which means he's aching all over). They've also re-instated the higher level this month (£20 instead of £17).

I have tomato and basil to plant this weekend, also garlic although I'm quite late with that so it may of may not grow.

Sorry about the proposed rise Nargle, that's a massive jump too. Hope you get it sorted. Our thermostat is often over 20 in the winter, OH likes it up, but partly because our boiler was unreliable and would often cut out so the heating would go off. Now it's fixed it will be interesting to see if our consumption goes up or down this year.

No NSD here, brows done on thurs and a few bits picked up yesterday. Day at home today though so hopefully no spends. Sun is trying to come out and nice to have the patio door open to let the cobwebs out. :)

Decided to pass up on my chance of 10 in a row and spend on some bits today that lose me an NSD.

I periodically check the price on some old(er) CDs I'd like to get hold of, and spotted last night that the price on 1 had come down to well within my budget and that 2 others were now only slightly above what I consider paying for more recent (and readily available) ones. Overnight the price of the 'cheap' one has dropped by a few pennies, and one of the others has dropped by a third - so I'm not risking them going back up by Tuesday which was my next planned spend day..... While I'm at it I'm also ordering a couple of others (they're not going to drop any cheaper than they currently are, but might go up).
