Not over impressed with these solicitors ... seems they have a number of families all looking to take action with them but charging them All around £4K each IN ADVANCE ... our local solicitor wanted a lot less to do similar... if 20 families have offered this money up ...£80k roughly? to put a freeze of assets on ... which as the police have confirmed they doubt they have assets, the addresses quoted have all been rentals not owned, the place in Spain as seen on Melanie Longs Facebook account is rented ... a court, as I understand it, will only assign a freeze order if there is grounds for belief that the defendant has substantial assets ... despite ripping so many people off it seems the actually pin their names to actually owning anything. The company names their have their names against are all either Discord, dormant or no longer trading. Personally if I were Tim Long I would be pretty concerned ... he has a big window cleaning firm, which appears to employ a large number of people ... and has Steven Long listed as a director ... although claims never to have heard of him ... Whoops ...!

But if you were attempting to hide your money so we have to pay your care home fees, who was committing the fraud?

The families weren’t doing this ... some were just trying to protect mixed families so that all parties got fair share of inheritance.

But are you honestly defending people who were taking advantage of, in the main, vulnerable elderly people?! This people are worse than the scum who knock on the door and con their way in to empty a few quid from a savings pot.

These turned up in shiny suits, with lots of legal backing, describing how families would be protected and how people could be assured and protected for the future.

These people really are the lowest of the low and deserve all that comes to them. Even then they will still get off lightly compared to the hurt and anguish they have wreaked on not only the people who trusted, but also the families who when trying to cope with loss of parents and grieving are then suddenly faced with all this mess.

I hope when Karma comes knocking on their door it comes carrying an array of weapons which will be deployed for a very long and painful time and make these people suffer for every single tear that every single person involved with them has ever shed. And this still won’t be even close to what I’m sure many would wish on them.

It isn't illegal or dishonest to put ones savings into a Trust. Just consult any solicitor and they will arrange this quite legally. Its a way of making sure that family get (in some part) the inheritance that you wish for them. One still has to pay tax, and Capital Gains. Many people have made this decision over many, many years. We are not trying to defraud anyone out of what would be due to the State on our deaths. We do not claim benefits in any way, and should we need to go into care then we will pay for that luxury.
    Well said! :)

No. I think its wrong to bung their mothers in a cheap care home at other people's expense, so they can inherit assets they have not earned. Evading care home fees was at the forefront of UWP sales pitch.
I'm dot defending UWP either. I would like to see the money returned and used to pay their own care home fees in nice care homes of their own choice. So I think I'm still on the same side as you.

Well if you agree with him, perhaps you can answer the question he raises - post 211 ?

Well if thats all thats wanted why not just consult any solicitor?
Instead of a bunch of con men who were promising a way to make us pay their care home fees?

Sorry for the repetition but its a reasonable question. He hasn't answered it. Neither has anyone else. So perhaps you can?

Essential listening for anyone affected by this:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b5qgp0 (today's Moneybox - Radio 4)

References to other firms of solicitors dealing with the issue, such as:

    https://www.cliftoningram.co.uk/news/latest-news/universal-wealth-preservation

This is not in any sense a recommendation (I know nothing about this firm) but what was interesting was the reference to costs in the hundreds of pounds, rather than the thousands mentioned earlier in this thread.

Listen to the programme - it's potentially very useful, and mentions a long and complex police investigation which is only at the early stages.

Good link.:T Eveyone affected should listen to this. The headline is about PIP, - UWP is in the programme though and starts about 13 minutes from the beginning. Yet again, the promised evasion of care home fees is stated as the reason for signing up with UWP.

Yes - so blatant - removes my sympathies, I'm afraid.

Same here. But what we have now is a situation where mums and dads will be bunged in cheap care homes at our expense whilst the con men have all the money
So I still want to see the money returned so the mums and dads can use it to live in nice care homes of their own choice, :) and I don't have to pay for them. :)

Radio 4 PM programme today saying there isn't enough public funded care home places to meet the demand, and its getting worse. Care home owner interviewed said public funding is £6,000 pa less than her basic places, and she is the lowest priced care home in town. Residents with funding shortfall being told they have to leave.
So we really do need to get this money back from UWP.
