Thank you very much. I just got annoyed at someone else assertions as to why I haven't got myself a new job yet. Having said that, I do think my example could be extrapolated to explain why some people find jobs easier to find than others. Location, skillset, age, past work experiences. It does make a difference.

Good luck Melysion. You are doing exactly the right things to get into the field you want and also it is great you have a clear idea of what you want to do, that is half the battle won!

I am sure you will get there eventually, just keep plugging away.

How can you fit 2.2 million people into 500, 000? Please explain, or we will keep going round in circles.

It's like saying you can fit 50 000 football supporters into a football staduium with 15 000 seats? Illogical and nonsense.

How is this situation any different?
  • Because not everyone will apply for the same job, some people might be taking six months off from working so not applying for anything at all, so people might think a job is beneath or above them, some people might not have the experience necessary to apply for the job, etc, etc.

To take your football analogy. Sheffield United have an average attendance of around 15,000. For their cup quarter final against Charlton I am sure they could have filled the stadium two or three times over. For a midweek Johnstones Paint Trophy game against Morecambe they might struggle to get 3,000 fans.

It depends upon a number of factors.

Either way my argument all along has been that there are plenty of jobs available. You’ve backed me up by saying there are 500,000 jobs available. Even you couldn’t argue that isn’t plenty.

    Aaargh!!!!!!

    You are making no sense.

If you are on JSA, you are expected to look for work. You cannot just take 6 months off looking for work, good luck in getting away with doing that.
Plenty of people take time out, of course. But then they don;t (in the main) claim JSA. If they do, they are likely to get sanctioned pretty sharpish.

Plenty of people do not have the right experience in the right areas of course.

But then that just backs up my point. There are not enough jobs to go round!
So why demonise the people out of work, like you are doing?

It is not unusual for there to be more people looking for work, than there are jobs available. It is always the case, it is just to what degree this is the case at any time. (unless you are talking about some countries under Communism, I believe).

Work should pay, I agree with that of course.
Training and learning new skills, all good, naturally (if they are in skills that are in short supply, then the government should help in doing this - and not only after being unemployed for six months).

Please show me where I have demonised those that are out of work.

All I have said is that there are plenty of jobs available. You have told me there are 500,000 jobs available. I think that is plenty.

Andf I am telling you that that is not, when there are 2.2 million odd registered as unemployed - plus students, homemakers, self-employed people looking to boost their income with paid employment, people alreay employed looking for extra work, people looking to change jobs, people being made redundant in future, people out of work relying on their savings rather than JSA, etc, etc, etc. All applying for job vacancies.

I previouslty thought you were fairly intelligent. I really am not so sure now.

Going back to the football analogy, at a time when Sheff Utd play Man Utd in a title deciding game for both teams, (as unlikely as it may sound) then of course demand is likely to far exceed supply.
Just as is the case at the current time, in the job market
  • Please understand that everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. My opinion is that there are plenty of jobs available whilst yours is that there aren’t.

I accept your opinion, I would appreciate it if you felt able to allow me to have an opinion even if I don’t agree with you.

Also I do resent you saying I have demonised people out of work. I had hoped we could have a debate without you resorting to untrue personal insults

Because you are saying nothing to back up your argument.
  • I have said plenty to back up my argument – I am sure people are bored of reading two or three pages worth of posts of us backing up our arguments! You need to accept that others have a point of view that maybe different from yours.

Also as I mentioned before I do resent you saying I have demonised people out of work when I haven’t.

Well, that is in effect what you are doing -- if not in so many words.

You are saying that it is wholly their fault when they are unemployed.
