Yes, even GPS (which doesn't transmit) is turned off which can be annoying if you want to look at your location on the map during a flight.

Using an iPhone with flight mode switched on, you can still turn on WiFi. This allows access to local WiFi spots in coffee shops etc., without worrying about using cellular data.

Rang EE last night and told them. All they did was switch the roaming off which means i cant call/text/internet etc when in spain. I can put it in flight mode and use wi-fi tho at no extra charge.

Thanks for all the input. Appreciated :D

    Hi

I'm going to Spain soon and I want to know which is the best way to make calls and texts and data in Spain. I would like to know what is the easiest option? I have a iPhone 5c on mobile/EE.

Are we to assume that your iPhone is on a contract with EE and is therefore locked to them?

Calls from Spain to where? Local calls or to UK mobiles/landlines?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hi. Can anyone suggest the cheapest way to make a call from England to a mobile phone in Spain? My partner spends a lot of her time in Spain but she doesn't have a smart phone or a data contract whilst there (just a no frills 2008 vintage mobile), so using Skype, Whats App, etc are no good. At the moment I use Tesco's international calling card which charges 8p a minute (until recently it was 6p). It would be great to find an even cheaper option as we often spend half an hour or more a day on the phone to each other. Many thanks.

Plenty of options from 0+2.5p/min or 15p+1p/min.

Also, have a look at toggle mobile
Your wife can call you from Spain for just 3p/min, but AFAIK calling to a toggle number can be expensive from some (all?) UK networks similarly to calls to Lyca Mobile numbers.
