Back to Google Maps, a quick Google search turned up this:
Try this little "hack":
1. zoom to Perpignan in France, close to the Spanish border
2. Open the square of the area to save as large as possible (max 85 MB)
3. Move the area under the square down to Barcelona
4. Save the map
5. Be happy and enjoy
Would you try it and let us know, please? Assuming you are not travelling too far from the city!0 -

Well it downloaded but obviously I can't check the navigation works until I'm actually there with gps turned on,but it's looking good.
Cheers mate :T0 -
Navfree does work - I used it successfully in France this summer. Though I agree the interface is not intuitive and sometimes you need to use the back button (assuming you are on Android).0

When travelling I find that mobile data can be invaluable.
T-mobile used to do 50mb for £10, if you ran out you could simply buy another 50mb. This was perfect on a trip to Barcelona earlier this year.
I'm off to Spain again, but have since changed to Three who charge £5 per day for unlimited data. This is pretty costly over a 12 day trip.
Can anyone recommend a prepay sim for use in Spain?
Note that I don't have a Spanish address or bank account so local sims requiring these are out of the question.

A few days ago, the Orange shop inside Carrefour in Torrevieja were offering a pre-pay SIM deal marked "Holidays", with unlimited data for 30 Euro Cents per day and calls home for 1 Euro Cent per minute. I don't know what the cost is, nor what ID you would need...
See this link for details!

The Orange deal linked is 30c for up to 10MB at full speed and a low speed beyond 10MB. Not at all bad but possibly somewhat limiting.
I've also used Lycamobile Spain's "Data Value Pack" deal.0
