On such a short flight I'd go for Easyjet - I don't think the BA short haul product is superior in any significant way and I found EZ cabin crew to be very nice on the rare times I've flown them......BA cabin crew sometimes are a bit more of a mixed bag with an attitude problem.

On a long haul flight my criteria would be a bit different and if the difference was small I'd probably cost in the frequent flyer miles as well as comfort but for Nice I don't see any advantage to paying more for essentially the same thing.

Madness to not use your free hand luggage entitlement but pay for luggage! Fit the 2 suitcases' worth of stuff into 4 cabin sized bags!

That really depends on the ages of the kids though. Traveling with children big enough to pull along their own small suitcase on wheels is entirely different to traveling with say a 3 and a 5 year old. Also if you don't own 4 "small enough" cases you need to factor in their cost- even at £10 each from Sports direct or similar that's still £40 to add on to the total flight cost. (Saying this as someone who can pack for a 5 day trip to Vegas with a case that small if I have to as I hate hanging about waiting for luggage.
Also remember that if you go the hand baggage only route you can't pack family sized toiletries and sunscreen and the cost of these items somewhere like the south of France is likely to be higher buying on arrival. I'd probably see if I could get it down to one checked suitcase and two roll along suitcases as hand baggage if I could with a family with toddlers travelling.

It's all about the total cost not just the air fare.

Eldest child must be 9 or under. ;)

Would be amazed if the OP didn't know anyone that could lend them some cabin cases.

In the OP's scenario, what happens if they get to Nice without either of their suitcases?

    Yes they do...

If I wasn't talking about take off I wouldn't have said "numerous airlines" - I'm not aware of a single one that bans electronics for the whole flight.

Unless things have changed very recently you are wrong. Neither Ryanair nor EasyJet allowed the use of electronic devices during take-off and landing the last time I flew with them and with respect to easyJet that was three days ago.

    Nope, you are wrong.

I am not wrong, I fly easyJet every week and they 100% ask people to power off devices when landing. I saw this happen as late as Friday last week.

So according to Easy jet the only ones you can use on take off and landing are
    Kindle
    Tablet with no wifi/Bluetooth capability
Nintendo ds like product with no Bluetooth.
    small mp3's with no Bluetooth
anything that has a flight safe mode on it. You have to remember that it has to go on.

What you are not taking into account, is that the Captain of the aircraft has overall jurisdiction of what happens on the flight. If he is not happy with electronic games on during take off or landing, then he can and will tell the cabin staff to get them switched off and there is nothing you can do about it. This may be what happened on jpsartre's flight.

It doesn't mean you can use them willy nilly.

Well, I'm flying with them again on Friday so I'll make sure to listen carefully to what the instructions are. I don't think they use automated safety announcements so whatever they say should be up-to-date. It could just be the cabin crew weren't aware of the new rules on my last flight.

On Easyjet, it appears the page with the info on, has been posted today.

That's why it didn't come into action on your last flights. Not allowed on Swiss based flights though.

It's right there in black and white. You ARE wrong, get over yourself...

I don't care what they said on the couple of flights you were on, Easyjet policy is that you are allowed. Presumably they're just reading from or reciting an old script.

I don't need to take it into account. I was correcting the erronous statement that it is forbidden by company policy. Not that I find the suggestion that the pilot overrided them particularly plausible.

It wasn't uploaded today, how would I post it yesterday if it was... I don't know what was there before but the page states its last update was 11 days ago.

You could be right about Switzerland as that's a different airline.
