Pruhealth gym loophole Article Discussion

I am activated today and was promised by pru to have my pack by the end of this week.
They gave me my membership no over the phone and I got down to Virgin and got my Virgin No in 2 mins. Called Pru and set-up over the phone. I was advised by the adviser that I should keep a exercise diary in case records defer. Also was told to make sure Gym record my visits manually until I got my Virgin Card.
Hope your pack and Mine come soon.
Did you went through Quidco? If so, how quick did it is shown tracked? I am bit worried that there is nothing in my Quidco Account.0 -
So the website is wrong. They should correct is asap.
What is the point of writing 26 when I need 31?
Thanks to you lot, I noticed it in time:o
When I called up, apparently I needed 29 visits to average 2+ per week, as my first quarter was slightly over 3 months (to include from when I registered midway through August, as well as September, October and November). However, after investigating it, PruHealth agreed that their website had misled me, and they credited me with three extra visits.
So, it worked out well in the end, but in future, I'll be calculating my target number of visits myself, rather than trusting the website!0 -
I just got a quote for my husband from boots.com where it was more expensive! They quoted £39 per month. From the pruhealth website, it was only £36.92.
Guess the halfprice offer is over!
We've going over to visit Virgin Active tomorrow. Phoned them before coming here, then remembered there was a special deal on with pruhealth etc. : )
Has anyone covered the whole family with Pruhealth? We're doing it more for the gym. Again, it was cheaper for myself and the children separately on one policy, and hubby on another. To be honest, doubt the children will need private health care. It costs an additional £26 a month. Wondering if anyone has managed to get a policy for just themselves and added the children on separately at Virgin Active? Is it a better deal?
We've got 3 children, all aged 4, 6, and 8.0 -
I just went on Pruhealth to get a quote to see how much my premium is likely to be when I renew and I was quite disapointed to see that they no longer allow you to pick the core premium and choose a £1,000 excess at the same time (as Martin's tip suggests we do). This obviously means it's not going to be such a good deal when I renew.
To show how it's changed. I did a bit of playing with the quotes and I've found an 18 year old choosing the cheapest available option would be paying roughly what I'm paying now. I'm 25 and I'm paying £19 odd a month.
It looks like at renewal my premium will jump to maybe £26 because of the removal of the option to set an excess, I really expected about £21 or £22. It's still not bad, especially since I do use the gym a lot and I'm on track to get the 100% discount but it seems like the value of the deal is going down.
The only thing I'm hoping for is that at renewal I can still carry over the £1,000 excess option over and get a lower renewal premium. Any thoughts?0 -
Thanks.Yours would be £115 as I read somewhere in this thread. Good luck and please lets us know when you get it.
Did you find it difficult to maintain 2+ visits per week to Gym?
Still hasn't shown up but patience is a virtue and all that :A
I didn't think I was going to find it difficult to clock 2+ a week but the past quarter has been hectic (40+hrs at work combined with single parenting does not leave time for much else) but I am going P/T at work come February so have more confidence in maintaining from then on. Even though I am still paying £25 + my premium, I am still saving a bit. Just a bit mind  The joke is I LOVE going to the gym and would happily go everyday if I could. Mmmm daily spin class :smileyheaDEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0 -
Can someone help me a bit with the figures here, because I'm confused as to whether I will save money?
I'm a virgin gym member at the moment, on a £36/month student membership (not tied in, can leave any time).
The cheapest pru-health quote I can get is £31.29/month. Adding to that the cost of the membership, activation code etc, am I actually going to save money?
I'm not being lazy in asking someone to work this out for me, I'm genuinely confused!!!
Thanks all

You would be paying £43.48 more with Pruhealth, although you might like to add cashback to the calculation. When I did it I got £115 cashback + £100 JJB vouchers which I converted into £75 with eBay. In this case you would save £146.52.
If you think you can get the 2,000 vitality points which IMO is feasible for anyone that goes 2x week you might like to consider the possible saving over 2 years. (36 * 24) - ((31.29 * 12) + (3 * 25) + 25 - 115 - 75 + (3 * 12)) = 547.52.0 -
edited: forget my previous question...it seems the £115 cashback + £100 JJB vouchers was an old offer.
I have a new question. It seems I can get the pru insurance directly thru Quidco (with £85 cashback) or through the Boots website (no quidco)
I also see on the Boots website that they mentionbenefits of the insurance include a free Boots health check, a free Boots eye exam and savings on a health screening. I did not see mention of these benefits on the main Pru website so was wondering if anyone knew if I could sign up thru the Pru website (to get the cashback) but then log into the boots site to claim the free tests??
cheeky I know...but this is MSE!!!0 -
