  • Im a member of virgin active and have never been made to jump through hoops or once been approached by a saleman about personal training so dont be put off by these comments.I find it a very relaxed atmosphere and its very family minded(the wife and kids are all members too) so i enjoy going down regularly with the whole family.ive been to the smaller independant gyms before and generally found them filled with steroid pumping numb skulls

completely agree - lovely bunch at my Virgin Media, very helpful. And never had a sales pitch for anything?

Not read all the way through this article yet so someone may have advised this already but I went to the gym regularly for about 8 months and did most of the vitality bits and bobs and I started this year with a 100% reduction in my premium of last year, meaning I pay about £40 for the year as well as the 3x£25 then 9x£5 (if I keep going regularly). All in all, ridiculously cheap. So don't overlook the vitality stuff! Also, points roll over so I started this year on 425 odd points. hth.
  • Got me a question on this - My girlfriend didn't work the vitality to her advantage and so her renewal premium is not as attractive as mine. It looks like it would be cheaper for her to join again using a cashback site, but the t's&c's talk about first time applicants only. Any thoughts or is it as black and white as that?
    cheers

  • Hello,

I've been keeping my own log of when I have been attending the gym to ensure I don't pay more and have made sure that everytime I have visited I have watched the staff swipe my card through when I go in.

However, I checked my vitality points yesterday and I am two sessions missing! I've emailed Pru Health who have said they will investigate but I can see from their point of view that they may think I am making it up!

Just wondered if anybody else had had any trouble with "missing" gym visits and if they got a satisfactory resolution from Pru Health?

    Thanks

I have nothing showing after 1 week of going to the gym - not sure if that's right or not. When do they start showing?

I've written to the Pru asking the same question as you, so when they reply I'll post the response up here....
  • Thank gingerRAT!! I've just called them up and someone from the cancellation team shouldbe ringing me tomorrow! YAY!

He also mentioned that they may be able to switch me over to the new gym scheme without cancelling my current policy and taking out another one to save on admin.. but i suppose we'll see what they say tomorrow as he wasn't too sure :s

    Thanks again!

Super, I've been switched over to the new gym scheme! They didn't need to cancel my policy, I've just been switched over - my vitality points will not be affected. I'll only need to pay one lot of £25 during the next 3 months while they work out my usage! Woohoo

    This forum is great!! Thanks!!

someone on here said it did work , but ive been in contact with topcashback, and they said they cant guarentee it as they normally want the whole transaction to be completed online.

its personally up to you, but i am going to do it through boots, they give u a bigger discount, and the total still works out cheaper than the new online quote, and very similiar compared to a telephone quote plus cashback.

    heres what mine was:

Phone quote + cashback (IF it tracks) =

    20.11 * 12 = 241.32 + £100 (25 activation + 3 months at £25)
    = 341.32 - 115 (cashback after 3 months
    =Total for first year = 226.32 = 18.86 pper month

    Boots offer

    12.50 * 12 = 150 + £100 (25 activation + 3 months at £25)
    =Total for first year = 250 = 20.83
HOWEVER you get 2000 advantage card points which is equivilent to £20.

So in theory its only £230 for 1st year = only £3.68p difference to cashback deal.

AND you are 100% guarenteed this price!

if the cashback didnt track ,. which is a possibility through the phone quote, you would be stuck with £341.32 cost for 1st year.

I recommend not taking the risk for the difference of £4 over the year, and go for the boots deal :)

Its been three weeks since I emailed them, but they're still 'investigating'
  • Well LA Fitness got back to me faster in writing than Pru. I now have a letter from them saying that they have removed my bank details from my membership account and that they won't attempt to take any Direct Debits in future, so life is good and I don't have to worry about that anymore!

I'm still waiting for the Pru to come back to me about the Vitality points situation, although they have added 1 gym visit to my account so far (my first one on 30/8), so I guess I need to wait and see what happens.

By the way, don't forget to send off the results of the initial health check you have at your first 1-1 at the gym to Pru Health as they give you 300 Vitality Points for it! :D
