I need more wardrobe advice :D I am hoping to go on a weeks beach holiday later in the year and having not been on that type of holiday for over a decade I have no clue what to take :o

I am not a teeny trim person so vest tops and short shorts will not be an option :rotfl: however I do not want to look frumpy! Any ideas as to what kinds of clothes and how many of each would be great. I am going with two children so I would like to travel light for me!

Hi there - I took some long cut-off denim shorts, some mid-thigh shorts and some lightweight trousers (from Matalan - http://www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2555797/wide-leg-printed-trousers) as I don't do skirts/like my legs :o

I also took some long line vests (from Matalan again), a couple of loose-fit kaftans and a few floaty, lightweight tops.

I managed to travel hand-luggage only, so all the above fall into the travel light category :)

    Have a great time!

LL your new haircut sounds lovely and hope your nice comments from people have given you a spring in your step :)

Rummer- I took a few kaftans of the kind of chiffon material the first time I went to Mexico but far far to hot to wear anything like that really. I couldn't bear it on my skin. I took skirts/shorts n vest for over bikini during the day.

Dress shorts/ maxi dress or knew length dress for at night. Flip flops for day & a pair of fancier ones for night.

Hope you have a great time :):)

  • Hi All

Hope you had a lovely weekend in the sunshine.

I spent yesterday afternoon and early evening gardening, digging flower borders etc so once DH left for his nightshift I downed tools and had a pampering session, nice hot bath to ward off any aches, full body moisturiser, facial etc, even did my nails which despite wearing gardening gloves had taken a bashing!

I have succumbed to ordering B!rchbox as I saw a £5 off code and have been humming and hawing about beauty boxes for a while. Will see what I think when it arrives before deciding to take out a subscription or not. I think it will be a good way of trying different brands without making too many costly mistakes.

RUMMER when we went on holiday last year we just took carry on (admittedly the largest sized bags permitted). It was really nice to not have to check bags and wait at the baggage reclaim. I think the biggest tip is that for myself (and also separately for DD aged 9) I laid out the clothes I was thinking of taking on the bed and looked to see if they all were of similar colours/tones and anything that stood out I rejected (unless of course it was a real favourite) that way I knew that everything would mix and match and if one top got grubby I had others to substitute it with. I still didn't wear everything I took! I am not a small lady but I do wear shorts as my legs are pretty good, usually to just above the knee. I also find lightweight chambray trousers good for travel as they are cool, go with everything and can be dressed up or down. We will be packing this way again this year. Hope you have a lovely holiday.

    Have a fab day ladies

I'm all fabbed up and off on my holiday tomorrow. Manicure and Pedicure and eyebrow wax all done today.

While I was out I couldn't resist a mooch in the CSs and got a lovely silk/cotton Zara summer skirt and a basic Boden t shirt. Very pleased with my purchases.

Went out to visit a "yellow book" garden today, it was at a small manor house, the garden and planting was lovely. I wore white skinnies and white vest top with a long black linen Shirt/coat over, hair freshly styled and a little make up, felt good and comfy. Pub lunch on the way home, need to change and get into the garden, but still feeling full, kick up rear needed please:D

Maman - have a great holiday.

321 - I usually wear cotton gloves inside gardening gloves and my nails still get a bashing:eek:, I need to do a manicure and pedicure, may get time later as no main meal to cook:j

Just a quickie to wish Maman a lovely holiday. See you when you get back.

Maddie - your day out sounds lovely and you sound as if you looked very chic and stylish in your mono chrome outfit…..A nice look.

321 - my hands are wrecked - a mass of cuts, grazes and thorns - from all that diy and gardening. The look and feel like a navvies hands at the moment. Luckily I have good skin and strong nails so a bit of TLC and they'll come up like new.

A tip for rough careworn hands……

Pour some olive oil (or veg oil) into the palm of your hand, add a teaspoon of sugar and work it into your hands. It might sting a bit if you hands are very dry and sore but it will soften the skin and remove all the little rough bits.

Time for dinner and then off to see OH.

Talking of hand scrubs I had to do a salt scrub the other day (super glue....got it all over my fingers ) can't say the salt got it all off but my hands do now feel silky soft and I doubt it's down to all the acetone I used to break down the glue :rotfl:

I am enjoying the weather now it's cooler. Anything above 25 degrees and I loathe it. Am definitely a winter girl at heart :o

Last few days I've had the burning desire to wear skirts. Or at any rate NOT jeans. This is unheard of but since I bought myself a couple of skater style dresses and the weather is warm I may as well indulge the feeling.

Am fed up with all the slogans in the magazines about bikini bodies etc. this pressure every summer to look a certain way......why can't we let people wear whatever the heck they like?! If you want to wear a two piece fill ya boots. If you want to wear something less revealing that's ok. Me I shall be in a swimsuit this weekend in the beach in Devon. I shall also be sporting a wetsuit so that I don't freeze to death  will I look a tiny bit like the michelin man.....possibly but I am really past caring. I've hated my body for over a decade and it's about time I packed it in. My kids won't care what I look like, it will be about having fun and enjoying the waves. I don't want to miss out on making memories with them because I am self conscious about what other people think.

    Here endeth the sermon :o

I also have got out of the habit of posting on here. I used to come on MSE daily and I don't any more  as much as I don't want to get sucked into more time suckage posting more often did help me. I always do the basics but I haven't painted my toes for aaaaaaages so I made time for that last night.

That's enough of a ramble for me :o

Hugs and spoons all round. Sorry to not really comment individually there are rather too many posts to catch up on :o:o

Lizzie tough love definitely needed. If you keep bailing her out she will never learn xx hard place to be in though xx

My current hand problems are either allotment or cake-decorating related (colored sugar paste colours my cuticles!). The nails are ok, I have shellac done every 2 weeks as my treat (£20 a time :o) but my hands are almost always being washed, I'm drinking water all day in work so am popping to the loo quite often and working for an NHS trust means dehydrating hand wash. My skin has benefited from the increased water intake though, my best friend recently said I was "glowing" :) I'm wearing makeup daily for work too, a light Bourjous foundation with blusher, lippy & khol so have stepped up my skincare regime too!

My next issue is office-suitable footwear for the summer. I am on my feet quite a bit, so try & have a couple of flat-shoe days, but H/O is "suited & booted" so tends to be shift dresses. I have some patent shoes, and some ancient Clarks wedge sandals, but could do with some ideas please.

 here, here! I completely agree! I have spent years worrying about my figure. The worry was there when I was a size 6 and is still there as a size 14 and all it has succeeded in doing is making me miss wonderful life experiences.

What I am focussing on now is being fit, healthy and happy. I go running (really slow jogging :rotfl:) a few times a week and do some form of exercise every day. I am steadily changing my diet so that I am making healthy food choices. My body gave me two beautiful children and lets me do so many wonderful things that I need to treat it better.

The last few days have been wonderful and I am looking forward to a good summer :D
