Frugal Frump to Fab - The Journey Continues

Hi everyone
I've been AWOL from this thread for a while - missed the beginning of it as I was away with work - but am now in serious need of some fabbing!!
I feel old, tired, grey, dull, frumpy and FAT; the diet and exercise have fallen by the waysideI'm planning to start the Harcombe diet 30 day blitz soon and want to tie this in with some other fabbing plans, my Easter goal is to list these properly and decide what to do about it.
I've had a couple of medical problems which hasn't helped, but I would definitely be feeling better if I ate less rubbish and went back to the gym.
Please wish me luck everyone.....Finally debt free!! March 2018 :j0 -

Hi Rubyslippers - good to see you. Just get back with the programme, take your time and keep going. Be kind to yourself - we all fall by the wayside now and again.
Hopefully a few weeks of TLC and you'll feel better soon.
I've been dealing with a couple of minor health problems and I'm pleased to say that I'm making some progress at last.
Doing regular pilates is definitely helping my back, neck and shoulder problems.
I also made a decision to wean myself off Omeprazole. I'm doing it very slowly but am making headway, steadily reducing the dosage. I've had a couple of episodes when I have felt quite unwell but that is to be expected. As long as I watch what I eat then I seem to be managing ok.
I have been taking Omeprazole for far too long and have noticed that the side effects had become much worse, hence my determination to quit.
I do feel very tired - again I think this due to my system having to adapt - so I am just pacing myself until my energy levels improve.
Today I have just pottered about catching up with myself. Took OH into a sheltered spot in the grounds of the nursing home and sat with him in the sun for a while.
Unfortunately his condition is markedly worse - communication is very difficult now and he tends to doze off a lot - but he did enjoy the sunshine.
Physio tomorrow.0 -

Physio tomorrow.
Sorry to hear your OH is not doing as well. Being outdoors in the fresh air is always a pick me up. I lost track a bit, has he moved to his new home?
I am back on the exercising with a passion now after a few weeks of letting things go. It helps that the weather has been nice as I have been working in the garden doing some serious diggingBeen chewing over joining the gym more for the classes than the machines however it is quite a commitment. I think I will see how I feel at the end of the summer when it is too miserable to exercise outdoors. I have never understood people who go on treadmills on a sunny day :rotfl:
Today I put on a nice outfit, straightened my hair and put on a dusting of blusher and went out for a lovely walk. I looked good until the rain caught me :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

No I've not moved him yet. Been too busy concentrating on my parents move. OH has some further assessments in May - one with his consultant (a complete waste of time as far as OH is concerned - his assessments are more for his consultant's research really) and one with the Continuing Health Care team.
I will make a decision then. The problem is "timescales"……..
I do not know exactly how much longer he has. No-one knows for sure. I do understand that there are variations and no two patients will travel the same journey, therefore setting timescales is notoriously difficult.
However, I have been doing some more research this last couple of weeks and it would suggest that OH illness is following the median progression and that he is currently around Year 8 and at approximately Stage 4 (5th stage is death at around Yr 9).
So far OH has hit all the various stages of his illness at bang on the median rate of progression.
TBH all I want is for him to be comfortable in life and to ensure he has a "good death" - if there is such a thing. I need to weigh up all the pros and cons that a move would entail.
One good thing that has come out of this recent dip in OH's condition is a sort of confirmation as to which version of CA he might have and whether or not my boys are at risk.
His consultant has always maintained that we were in the clear - but you know how it is when you are a mum - worrying is what we do.
Given one of the most recent symptoms to appear it's beginning to look as if OH has LOICA. (Late Onset Idiopathic Cerebellar Ataxia) - in short no known origin, most likely a virus, and not hereditary.
Obviously we will not know for certain until further tests can be carried out post mortem but it does ease my mind a little to know that it is looking less likely that OH's condition is hereditary and that my boys are either at risk themselves or are carriers.
(I refuse to let him have any further invasive investigations purely for research purposes. I will not have OH treated as a guinea pig).
So yes OH slips closer to the end of life but at least as the disease progresses it appears that it has answered the most burning question of all - which version does he have exactly and are our boys safe.
Every cloud has a silver lining and we do have to be grateful for small mercies.
Physio went well but I'm now a bit tired and achy so a nice little rest and then toddle off to see OH after dinner.0 -
LL I am sure that you will know the right thing to do at the time. What a blessing that you are such a close family and there for each other.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

:j:j:j It is fab Friday and the sun is shining :j:j:j
I am up early, eaten a very health breakfast and I am getting ready to go out for a long walk in the park and a natter with a close friend. There is a healthy lunch waiting for my return and the rest of the day is being spent in the garden.
My garden helps my fabbing in so many ways. Digging and working helps keep me fit and it is so lovely having a wee oasis all of my own to relax in. We also have people round during the summer to relax in the garden and share BBQs with which is lovely.
Clothing today will be comfy and practical however I will slick on some lip gloss for that little bit of sparkle :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Hope everyone is enjoying their bank holiday. It is much needed on my end!
Well me and my OH are off to Manchester tomorrow. We used to live there so are going to see friends, go out for a meal at one of our favourite restaurant, go out for some drinks and have a little break. Looking forward to it. OH has been working nights and is currently asleep so I'm taking this time to do a face mask (done), protein hair mask (currently on head) and then dye my hair (next on list). No more goo hoarding!

Hi Bitsy Beans.
I notice that you regularly do your facial exercises. Do you mind me asking which exercises you do? I bought a dvd on facial exercises and the initial results were good but I am finding that when I do them now they add new wrinkles that weren't there before I started. I'm at a stage now that I am worried that if I do them I will be a woman in her 50s with a face of a 90 year old! Not that there's anything wrong with a 90 year old face just not before I reach that age. I wondered if you would mind sharing your experience with the exercises.0 -
Hi, I'm new here
saw the thread title and it was totally what I'm looking for!
I need to reinvent myself. I'm currently losing weight (1 stone in 7 weeks just 2 more till I'm at my healthy bmi range). Started looking after myself, skin care regime sorted. Now I'm starting to experiment with make up. The trouble I'm having is eye make up! I need to find a matte eye shadow/s as I don't like sparkling ones for every day! Does anyone here have any recommendations?
Thanks!
