Why are you bothered? So what if he puts a bin in front of his house?

This reminds me of a story I heard a few weeks ago:

Householder lives near a uni. Puts bins outside his house. Busybody neighbour moves them. Some commuter/student then parks there and goes off....

Turns out it was moving day for householder so his removal van had nowhere to park. He had to block the street and load causing huge build up of traffic.

I think even the jobsworth who will come out to inspect will see the bin as not obstructing the highway. Putting a wheely bin inbetween parked cars and in the middle of the road where cars drive are two different things.

It could still be obstruction, as could the parked cars. But as in post 39 by Aretnap, action would normally only be taken if it was considered to be an unnecessary obstruction, or otherwise causing a problem.

Where I live, occupiers can be fined for placing/leaving their bins on the path or road beyond a reasonable time before or after they have been emptied. Can't be put out before 7pm the day before, and should be returned by 7pm on the day of the collection. If you want to take it further, you should contact your council and complain about people leaving bins out, they'll no doubt write to the entire street, then follow up with visits and issue fpn's to none compliers. Bit of a waste of your life,. but if it bothers you that much. Alternatively, just drive into his bin knocking it out of the way, they are made of plastic so won't damage your car much. .

Because it is not his space to reserve. I don't reserve the space outside my house because I think it would be selfish and also it is not my space.

I accept fully when people have a real need to reserve a space, for example when moving house.

But why is it so important to you? Live and let live? Maybe his car has been vandalised before or something hence he wants it where he can see it?

In the same vein;its not your road to complain. Both quite petty, but at least the bin placer has a sound reason to do what they are doing.

Actually, it is everyone's road so it is quite right to complain. The road is common property and no individual can claim a right over it. The only oddity is that disabled people are able to nab their space with a marked disabled box.

What's the fuss, every Thursday evening all our wheelie bins get left in front of my drive preventing me parking. I just move them and then park up. At least they're empty by this point.

Anyway, seems a bit amateur, I find them little black cones work better. no one ever moves them...

    I disagree.

I think when anyone is showing bad manners (another example, queue jumping) we have a right to object.
