The one thing I do know is that it is never as bad as you imagine at 4am.

Thankfully 4am stresses don't affect me, just wish I could get to sleep before midnight....

  • I love it when a new couple get together, and they are just so happy. Especially in the case we're currently observing (techie friend & lodger) as they have both admired each other from afar for so long, neither wanting to make a move on the other in case it wasn't reciprocated. Thankfully we have another friend who is as subtle as a sledgehammer and got things moving. What an adventure they may have in front of them....

Unlike us.... We've had the most boring day.

    Builders have started :j
False ceiling is down & gone :j
Original ceiling has got to come down

We've had so many different people in and out today we've been under house arrest, not my idea of fun. Especially when the entire of upstairs has been off limits too. So I have achieved nothing.

However, on the mfw front, today is a NSD, I haven't got anything to put on ynab, feel a little like I have wasted a day of the free trial.

A friend has a desk we can have for only a little amount of money for the lodger's room - I just need to measure it it make sure it will fit.
Been looking at wardrobes & bedside cabinets (again need to measure) and am going to use some survey vouchers to get a lamp. All works out at 6-8 weeks rent to cover the costs of these items. I think that is perfectly reasonable.

Ordering archive boxes Thursday, to arrive friday (we have amazon prime) so should be able to box all the paper work Friday)

Tomorrow is a catch up with my gp. She has been so supportive throughout the time I've been off work, and would like a catch up before term starts.

Then a meeting with my head to discuss my phased return - not looking forward to this. But mindfulness is helping me not to think about it....

Right, want to be asleep before midnight. So good night.

Lol. A really boring day :) yay for progress although having just finished a self build I can tell you you will be sick of the sight of builders VERY soon! The end result will be worth it though.

I am TERRIBLE about getting to bed before bedtime too. Before kids I would go to bed about 10.30/11ish and now it is between 12 and 1! Ridiculous! I enjoy my evenings and having a bit of my time but now the biggest two are at school and the littlest at nursery I really need to make mornings into my time and try to get to bed at a decent time. I think I will challenge myself to get to bed by 11.30 for the next week or so and see if I can gradually bring it forward.

    Good night :)

  • Today's update

    1) school- not a great meeting, but moving forward. My dr is sooooo supportive, I saw her this morning for a regular review, then she rang me at the end of the day for an update following school meeting and offering more support.

    2) builders - apparently I only asked for an 'under the eaves' cupboard on one side.... Oops. Oh well, never mind. I could get it changed, but I'm not going to be one of those grand designs people who go over budget by changing their mind. And it's all additional space, so I won't miss what I've not got......

    3) spending- boxes for storing things in the under the eaves cupboard I am getting, but that's it. Off to YNAB it now......

Hubby heading off on a job tomorrow, so home alone for a week, well not alone, I've got builders & dust for company.

  • 1) Builders - ARGGGHHHHHHHHH How can it only be day 3?????

The landing ceiling is collapsing as they put the new joists in above - it wasn't meant to be coming down originally, but we did know on Tuesday that it needed to be replaced. No additional cost as yet as they were going to do stuff to the ceiling anyway, so it still needs boards, it still needs plaster, it still needs other stuff…. I don't really understand. I'm smiling & nodding at the builders - fortunately Hubby has been here until today and has dealt with them.
The landing & stair carpet is absolutely ruined, despite them putting dust sheets down - there is more slate dust in my house than in your average Welsh mine. The carpet wasn't much good before, but we were eeking it out until we had the energy/effort/inclination/money to get it sorted properly - Hubby would like a strip of carpet with the wood showing at the edges. So what we'll do is live with it in it's bare state until we get to that job on the list of jobs.

    2) School - nothing to report

    3) Spending (all on YNAB) -

out for tea tonight with a former colleague & friend £15 spend.

Ordered bedding & a new lamp for the lodger's room - on click & collect so getting that Sunday - £41 (bargain - two sets of double duvet covers/pillow cases & fitted sheets + 1 desk lamp) I may even have got cash back through a cash back site, but not sure - I've never done cash back websites before - and I felt like I was missing out, you all seem to make so much money from it.

Hubby spent nearly £6 on bacon and…… today (there's bacon in the freezer - why didn't he check the freezer inventory before he left????)

    4) - Baking - finished the baking for the boy's work trip, all sent in disposable containers as I'm not sure they would show appropriate care for the ones I would take places.

    Tomorrow involves
*trying to regain some sense of normality to the slate mine (aka house)
*ordering the wardrobe & bedside cabinet for lodger's room
*Packing our stuff up in the spare room.

    Question - will this work…….?

If on Saturday (no point tomorrow) I deep clean the spare room - clean carpets etc - then shut the door and gaffa tape the door shut (with theatre grade fabric style, won't damage the door but will be strong gaffa) will it be safe from the falling ceiling, slate dust & general mess going on on the hallway???
If it won't then I've no idea when it will get a clean……

    Thanks All

    Wish

  • So, confessions of a spender.....

Breakfast & two hot drinks in the local cafe (too much dust & builders at home)
Steam mop (I have to clean up all this mess!)
Industrial quantities of hairspray- apparently you spray this in the air and it brings all the dust to the ground
Industrial quantities of cleaning wipes. Must clean up all this mess!

Furniture for lodger's room (wardrobe & bedside cabinet)

Key ring for the lodger's keys.

Coasters for lodger's room (am buying new furniture, don't want cup marks on it)

All still needs to be YNAB, but will do that later.

The house is so dirty, I really don't like it. And all the office stuff is piled up in our bedroom so it's beginning to get me down a bit, this time next week I'll be dragging it up to the new loft office (I hope)

Keep calm and carry on Wish!

Great tip about the dust. We moved into our new build house in May and there is still dust in the air. Constantly cleaning. I will try the hairspray trick tomorrow as my lo with asthma is away this weekend.

Sounds like a good spend day - good fun that is :)
