So sorry to read this comeandgo. Sincere condolences to you and your family.

I am sure all these emails/posts etc can be quite upsetting for many people. I suppose the marketing people never ever stop to think about this?

    I agree with this.

I would like to give her my dad back. He died on Wednesday.

    That is heartbreaking.

I am so very sorry for your sad loss

Mother Melvis truly believes that Mother's Day was created especially for her. Last year my Brother sent her a beautiful hand painted card he picked up from an Artist in Spitalfields Market, she called me in tears as it didn't say Mother/Mother's Day on the front  :rotfl:

After looking through literally tens of soppy cards, Funky Pigeon thankfully has something amusing and sentiment free on it's way to me (don't worry, Mother Melvis fans - it not only says Mother's Day, it's also personalised with her own name!) ... I've also got her a double "Your Songs" CD of current pop hits, so she can "get down with the kids" - and so we'll have something other than Rod Stewart to listen to next time she throws a party ;) and I'll buy her some chocolates that she will no doubt pass around after Mother's Day lunch as she's too scared to eat more than one in case she puts weight on :rotfl::rotfl:

comeandgo, so sorry for your loss :(

My mum doesn't like us spending money on her because she knows we appreciate her 365 days of the year and not just on Mother's Day! Luckily I won a huge bouquet of flowers from Bunches so they are delivering them to her home on Friday. Apart from that, I have made her a cross stitch card with a daffodil on. She loves those flowers and appreciates homemade cards more. If I hadn't won the flowers, I would have probably bought her a couple of bunches of daffodils. She is diabetic so doesn't eat chocolates or drink wine, she has loads of mugs, toiletries, pair of slippers, photo frames and doesn't wear perfumes etc. My dear old mum is the sort of mum who would just like taken to a nice quiet cafe on the seafront for a pot of tea and a scone or teacake!

That reminds me, I'm also making my Mum a peg bag as she saw the one I made myself recently and asked me to make her one too :) x

That is a good idea! I might make my mum a peg bag too :p ! She would love something like that! I made her a cute hen shaped egg cosy last year and she loved it and uses it all the time!:p

So sorry to read this comeandgo. Sincere condolences to you and your family.

My mum lives hundreds of miles away and I am her only child (well I am a woman now ) I send her flowers. I agree it is far too commercialised now and I am sick and tired of every email and every facebook post just now being about Mothers Day.

Sadly, I lost my dad when I was 17 and it really really annoys me come around Fathers day when the emails/notices start. I honestly feel like replying to them saying I wish more than anything I could buy my dad a present.

I am sure all these emails/posts etc can be quite upsetting for many people. I suppose the marketing people never ever stop to think about this?

  • Nothing. :o I don't see my mum and my husband thinks it's a commercial holiday like Valentines Day and so won't get his mum anything either. That's also the reason I'm not getting anything from my little one courtesy of DH. :(

It'll mean more when your LO gets you something himself when he's old enough to. My two DDs have only started getting me something/making me breakfast the last couple of years and it's lovely :)

May you all have lots of luck, Emma xx
  • I won a Garden Centre voucher for £100 earlier this year so I told my Mum to pick some things from the site and she loved it. She picked some roses, a Japanese Maple and tons of bedding plants. It's all being delivered to her next week :)

May you all have lots of luck, Emma xx
