from 4pm onwards i am unable to even load a page....
this must be the traffic light system, it has been like this fr 2 weeks and virgin say its my problem, to keep phoning the 0906 number t be told there is high usage in the area??????
what the f**k why should i keep paying the 0906 number, and the broadband rental when i cant even get on line after 4pm?
they are really making me so angry i have now reported it to watchdog, and wrote a letter of complaint .... lets see!!! :mad:0 -
Hi guys,
Just wanted to remind you all that if you need to contact tech support, don't forget you can use the chat client in Broadband Medic to speak to an advisor.
I did it the other night and it was quicker, cheaper and easier then phoning.
Granted not much use if your BB is off completely but for slow speeds etc...

1)Go to Internet Options
2)Click Connection tab
3)Click LAN settings
4)Put a tick in the proxy server box then click advanced
5)In the http box enter colc-cache-3.server.ntli.net
6)In the port box enter 8080
7)Click ok on all tabs until you are back to desktop and then re-run speedtest.
(If the net doesnt work after just turn proxy off by repeating the first few steps and untick the proxy server box)
Hey. I tried exactly what you said and nothing happens. The net doesn't work.
Is there a spelling mistake?
I really hate my crappy 35kb/s max upload speed
This is what I get:
Not Found
The requested URL http://moneysavingexpert.com/ was not found on this server.
Server http://moneysavingexpert.com/ at Port 80:beer:0 -

Heres a more detailed bit of info and below is a list of proxys that are usually really fast
heres a bit more detail on setting them
Setting an explicit web proxy in Internet Explorer for Windows
The following procedure works on all Windows platforms running Internet Explorer 5.x/6.x, and the procedure for Internet Explorer 4.x is very similar:
Open Control Panel Internet Options (or, in IE, pull down menu Tools and select Internet Options...).
Click on the tab Connections.
Click on button LAN Settings.
UNcheck Automatically detect settings.
UNcheck Use automatic configuration script.
Check Use a proxy server but ensure that the boxes are left blank.
Click on button Advanced:
In the row HTTP fill in the name and port number (8080) of your chosen web proxy server (see below). It is essential that you do not select port 80, even if your chosen server offers a proxy service on that port.
Ensure that the other rows are left blank.
UNcheck Use the same proxy server for all protocols.
In the Exceptions box enter: 192.168.*
Click OK.
Click OK to exit LAN settings.
Click OK to apply the changes and exit Internet Options

Colchester 2 = colc-cache-2.server.ntli.net
Colchester 3 = colc-cache-3.server.ntli.net

I did exactly the same the first 2 times I tried it it didnt work, I then installed firefox and tried it with that and it worked, and now even when I switch over to IE7 it still works, how many of the proxys have you tried, I am using the 3rd one from colchester and its lightning. And I live in south manchester0 -

Thanks . In that case, i'll try more later. I have no blueyonder (virgin) software on my computer at all. When i received my router and modem all I did was connect (hardwired) them to my pc and hey presto, it worked.
Perhaps, with your above method, I need to apply the settings, then turn the modem and/or router off. turn them on and then try opening ie7.
I don't know about software but the fact that it worked with firefox and then started to work with IE , for you, is strange . Unless of course, firefox did something to IE's configuration, which i doubt..:beer:0 -

Colchester and Belfast proxies are still running really fast, they will try and shut them down but I will get other ones to use all the time, they will soon give in and give us all top speeds in the end. Fed up of hearing there excuses that it is are P.C's fault or its because of software, when quite clearly I am getting a 20 meg connection. Thats what I told the guy on the phone and he just kept quiet. And and email that was sent to me from V.M after I told them that changing the proxy cured my problems is here
Thanks for your email to Virgin Media.
If the problem you were originally experiencing was resolved by specifying a proxy server, then the fault would have been caused by the proxy server that you were connected to by default. This would suggest that the proxy server in your area has not yet been taken down, and is still causing this issue. Try specifying another proxy: this should enable you to browse correctly until the local proxy is removed0 -
cheers i did what you said and the pages are flying.strangely enough i have no probs accessing anything with the ntl proxy that's in the firefox settings.for yrs now i've been saying to those in CS that i shouldn't have to be using proxies and that they should sort it out at their end.they obviously don't give a toss and the area where i am has had (not proxy related) so many probs over the last few mths.well i'm due to ring retentions in the nxt few days cos my 3 mths 'offer' is up again0
