    Very interesting...
So it seems that Ovivo's whole business model was to harvest customers' personal data to sell to advertisers
    - not just a simple ad-funded model but handing over unique identifiable personal data. When they realized they weren't going to be able to do this they had the plug pulled.

The Ovivo CEO Dariush Zand apparently has previous form with this kind of thing.

Hand over to who? I bet you dont even know who or how they were supposed to make money by selling your data, and what data?

You have no idea about the technology involved and making silly accusations. They already have your personal data!!!!

Sounds to me they wanted live data to track each users browsing habits so they can provide you with relevant ads based on the websites you were viewing. E.g. using mobile internet to look up football scores? Serve ads for BT sports..

Ovivo ads weren't targeted and you got complete unrelated ads that you didnt want to click.

Some people are just paranoid and have an over inflated sense of what they "personal data" is worth.
  • My mate went to vodafone to get a new deal, they tried to enter PAC to give him his old number back, and said it can't be used for ten working days.
They kept putting dates in for the number swap, and the earliest it would let it go through was ten working days from today.

Just a heads up if anyone has any problems.

Just like to say thanks to all the people giving useful information here and sharing their experiences. We will try and get the money back for my daughter whose sim was only arrived on the 19th and didn't get activated.
Feel let down by the lack of notice from Ovivo but other than that we don't blame anyone as we chose the deal knowing it was too good.

This data harvesting, is that what Ovivo planned or were doing? If they were already doing it, would it be worth keeping the Ovivo mobile number? Would it be similar to tracking cookies?

Sounds like a Vodafone problem (typical inefficient old Vodafone), I have 2 ports going through on Three, both have confirmed as happening tomorrow and one PAC was only supplied at about 4:45 this afternoon.

  • I just signed up for this crap based on MSE recommendations. I was due to port today with confirmatory email yesterday saying all is well. I now have to write to my credit card provider to get a refund and have lost all network coverage.

Your credibility just took a major hit and your online response should have been a grovelling apology for appalling judgement, recommending this fraudulent outfit. Guy W. Anker's response "We are gutted to hear Ovivo has closed down, though as we warned, there was always a risk" is nonsense as there was no warning that I read. I am sure he is not half as gutted as me today.

How much did MSE earn for promoting them last week? Sudden cash hit from publicity and then they shut down - you are a disgrace.

May well be cancelling the weekly email soon.

Just to say that the pac.php page worked a treat for me- I won't be making the same mistake again. It may take some time to load, but it still works! Thank you d123!

Oh, and Thunderballs, thanks for your estimate anyway! It seems that Ovivo aren't quite as inept as we thought, at least in saving my number!

well I paid £15 for it and had it years, sad to see it go but I got well over my moneys worth. MSE offer I think sent them over the edge
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
