I used to live in Eltham and would totally second what you said (add Bexley to that list!).

Totally agree with that too - would much rather drive from Kent to the M25 than from Catford! That South Circular can be hell, along with other main roads.

Saying that - actually, Beckenham has some affordable stuff in your price bracket. I would bite their arm off over Catford or any of the others mentioned!

Completely agree with you, OH can get into London inside 40 minutes from here, a few weeks ago it took him another 2 hours to get round the South Circular.

He now parks up in Beckenham and takes the train to work, 7 minutes and he's there and back to the car again. He's sometimes home earlier than he would be if we still lived in Catford.

Weird - I always feel like I should have lived there. One of those places that felt like home when I drove through. A couple of people at work live there. Have only heard good things - do you really recommend it as a place to live? Any negatives? Just satisfying my curiosity - wouldn't move south again, but probably helpful for others looking south in that vicinity.

Come to Yorkshire! We'll look after you. Moving out of London was the best decision we ever made. As long as you have work the quality of life is a lot better. London is great to visit, and you can still do that.

I moved up North too but the public transport is absolutely dire!

True for a lot of places, but does depend on where you are and where you want to go. I succumbed to getting a car, something I never would have done in London. However, compared to house prices in London you could get several cars :p

I wouldn't live there, but that's just me. Couldn't you move a little bit south of there or east/west? Bromley, Beckenham, Eltham, Sidcup, Crystal Palace, Orpington

It's be quicker to get to the M25 from Bromley than from Catford (I used to live in Purley and now live in Kent) so that shouldn't stop you looking out that way. As you have kids remember Kent still has grammer schools too which may be a factor.

You can walk to the triangle in Crystal Palace in 10 minutes from there. And depending which way the house is facing you might have a view of the Ikea towers in Croydon!
