Sooner or later you will move to Kent.

Might as well make it now and find a decent house for your money.

I live in Catford. Have found people very nice and friendly, haven't had a problem with crime, happy to walk round it after dark. It is on the up - nice new pub, the Catford Constitutional, coffee
Shops, excellent Turkish restaurant on the bromley road.

But that house looks overpriced to me, though close to ladywell fields and a Short walk from blythe hill; check out others in the neighbourhood. And folks are right, hither green is a bit nicer plus better rail links.

WOW! Catford used to be one of the cheaper ares - not sure what's changed, or if this house is just overpriced. This particular area can be a bit busy as it is quite near the station and there is a lot of congestion at all times of day over Catford bridge (not sure if you have a car).

Personally, I would look at Bromley, which is not that much further out, and if £550k is you budget, you will definately find something (bigger) to meet your needs

We have toyed with the idea of Kent many times, and I'd be quite happy to move there. However OH's parents live in the Midlands and as things stand at the moment are the only family support we have if anything happens (we have 2 young children), so moving even further away from them isn't really an option.

  • My feeling is we just sit tight as the value of property round here is climbing at an alarming rate, and then make our move out of London.

Fair enough, although going north of London you would probably be using the M25 anyway, so maybe somewhere close to a junction would not take much longer than Catford. Hope it works out.

WOW, I cannot believe the price of that house. I used to live in Catford and wouldn't like to move back there to be honest but I hear from family that it has improved. There are nice big houses there though with good gardens.

I used to live in Eltham and would totally second what you said (add Bexley to that list!).

Totally agree with that too - would much rather drive from Kent to the M25 than from Catford! That South Circular can be hell, along with other main roads.

Saying that - actually, Beckenham has some affordable stuff in your price bracket. I would bite their arm off over Catford or any of the others mentioned!
