Catford

Dare I ask?

Anyone able to give me any lowdown on Catford?

Is it to be avoided or has it the potential to be a nice place to live?

Asking as it seems to be one of the last 'affordable(ish) bits of SE London.

This house looked lovely, but then again if the area is bad then the loveliest house isn't going to cut the mustard.

  • I lived there for 18 months. Never had a issues except the upstairs neighbour being very noisey and having an unruly teenager.

It's not a glamorous place, and I'm sure it has it's fair share of crime. But it has good train links and like I said, we never witnessed any crime.
  • That road is off the road I used to live on!
  • :(
Yikes! £550k. My budget is half that *gulp*

What was the road like CoY?

I've lived in my bit of SE London for 14 years and similarly had no bother/seen any trouble despite the area being maligned for many years as being a crime hotspot and no-go area. Now all of a sudden the prices have shot up, gastro pubs and coffee shops are falling over themselves to open up and we have been priced out of upgrading to a house, despite our 3 bed maisonette now being worth a stupid amount :(

The only reason we could look at something for that price is that our place has gone up so much and we have a lot of equity as I have been over paying the mortgage for years.

    It'd still stretch us mind.

£550k in CATFORD?! Jeez... has it changed that much? Always seeemed to be 'up and coming' but hadn't realised it had upped and come!

Also look at Hither Green. Hear lots of good things.

Can think of far nicer places I'd rather live, but then I'm not in your shoes :)

Yeah, got to say the temptation at the moment is to just let the prices round my way keep racking up, and then move out of London..Brighton is on our list.

It was a few years ago now, we were on bradgate road. it was quiet and nothing bad ever happened. Our upstairs neighbours were a pain but that wouldn't affect you.

We ended up moving down the train line to lower sydenham. I would say I felt more at ease in lower sydenham, because even though nothing ever happened in catford I knew the reputation. But I hear it's improved since we lived there. Also that house is practically in ladywell/Lewisham.

Forest hill is nice but not sure on prices.

    That's a nice house.
