Despite this I have not been asked to provide any meter readings to my previous supplier or new one. I have taken the readings but this process is new to me so can anybody please let me know when I should contact them to give readings?
I have EDF welcome emails and a letter from Eon saying sorry you're leaving us but that's all so far.
Can somebody please advise? ThanksDangermouse99 wrote: »Ah ok thanks. Seems crazy that I don't contact old supplier. Surely I need to get money back etc? I think I've overpaid and have credit. I've been emailed by EDF tonight asking for a meter reading
Already some excellent advice on here Dangermouse99. Just to confirm, with a change of supplier, it's the responsibility of the new supplier to let the old supplier have the meter readings they intend to use to open their account. The old supplier will use the same readings to close their account and issue a final bill. This makes sure the same energy is only charged once.
Once we receive the readings from EDF, we'll issue our final bill. Switches usually take about two and half weeks to go through but it could be longer before our final bill is raised. The way it works is that electronic messages pass between the two suppliers and certain third parties like the regional distributors, meter operators, meter reading agents, national databases etc. These let all those involved with your energy supply know about the changed circumstances.
One of these messages is about the meter readings. They're checked by a third party to make sure they're in line with past readings for the property. From here, final bills are usually issued within 2 weeks and refunds, where applicable, are sent after this. If you've registered with our website for paperless billing, the final bill will be posted online and an email sent to let you know it's there.
Hope this explains Dangermouse99. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

We're happy to be here both. No matter if it's tough, rough or a piece of cake, Helena, Amy or I will dive in regardless. :j

Not the first time Malc has been responsible for helping someone on these forums. The E:on reps are very proactive.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

When I left this thread a year ago, it was just over 1,000 posts. It's unbelievable that the post count is now 2739. Its also unbelievable that one year later they are still inefficient and making the same mistakes.
This company is a shambles and the ombudsman should fine them and order them to get their act together.
3 June 2016
Extra Energy has delivered the worst performance for its handling of customer complaints, according to Citizens Advice’s latest energy supplier league table which measures how effectively customer complaints are dealt with by energy companies.
The company came bottom of the consumer champion’s league table for January to March 2016. There were 1,682 complaints per 100,000 Extra Energy customers - the highest complaints ratio ever recorded over the course of the league table’s five year history.
I switched to EDF and I know there have been complaints about them also, but I have never had any trouble. Last week I gave them a meter reading and the next day my bill was ready and they are reducing my DD from next month.Holding back the years...0 -
If anyone has been following my issues with EE, they paid my £30 'compensation' on 8th June, 21days after the ombudsman proposal (they has 28days to comply) and without prompting.
Finally I can get closure. For the record I am currently with E-On and happy. Will still look for the best deal in September BUT will never go with Extra Energy again, no matter how cheap- not worth the hassle and stress.
Cheerio and best of luck to all.0
