I hope Ben Jones has a strong stomach today after an article appearing in the Daily Mail today saying his company his one of the worst complained about.
You mean the article in which he is quoted as sayingBen Jones, managing director of operations at Extra Energy, said: "It is true to say that the first quarter of the year was a challenging period and some customers were affected. We apologise unreservedly to every single customer who has experienced problems.
"We failed to anticipate just how attractive our low prices would be to householders and unfortunately we didn't put customer service resources in place quickly enough. Thankfully these problems are largely a thing of the past."
Mind you, he's been trotting that line out for quite a while now.
Still, he should have anticipated getting teh wrath of Daily Mail readers after the Daily Mail effectively recommened their readers switch to his company a couple of years back. The way millions of households are being ripped off by the big energy firms is laid bare today.
Figures show customers are being charged at least three times the price their suppliers pay for gas
...
He [Richard Lloyd, of consumer group Which?] suggested that customers shop around, as small suppliers can be considerably cheaper.
For example, Extra Energy is offering a tariff that is almost 25 per cent cheaper than British Gas’s increased rate.0 -

It's the same quote on FT and Telegragh, so I would assume that it was trotted out by their PR people. Still I call him a LIAR, as you quite rightly say he's been trotting out the same excuses for ages. And the Citizens Advice says that being a small company is no excuse for poor service.
P.S. so not a Daily Mail reader, just looked due to previous post saying about it!!!0 -

I do not care how cheap they are/get nothing would encourage me to return. It took 14 months to finally sort out my final bill.0 -

I've just left them. However, they gave me a very cheap deal and they have a good website. I had a huge credit on with them and I could never get through on the phone which is the only reason why I left (I eventually got through and sorted my credit out). I would say when they answer the phone they provide relatively good customer service but I struggled to get through and couldn't bear it. I'm paying more now but feel less stressed.0

Well, I've paid my amended (and finally correct) bill on time on the 29yh May. My £30 awarded to me from Extra Energy by the Ombudsman hasn't appeared though. Have to give them 28 days. I'm not hopeful it will appear and I foresee more chasing...0
