I left Extra Energy in September 2015 and last week I finally received a refund of my credit balance, written apology & compensation payment as ordered by the Ombudsman.

The tariff was competitive, more so when you add on the compensation payment, but I don't consider the savings were worth the time & frustration. Even if you have lots of free time I would not take the risk of using them because there is always the possibility that they could go into liquidation and your credit would never be returned. (There are safeguards to protect your energy supply should the supplier fail but I believe any credit they owe would likely be lost.)

The written apology tells me that their processes have been 'fine tuned' to make sure the same circumstances do not arise again. I would have thought that a little more than fine tuning was required.

Just had the threatening "unpaid final bill" e-mail for the disputed (for a second time) inaccurate bill. Replied with a nice snotty e-mail about their shambles of a company. :p

As a complete contrast I submitted my read to E.ON at 9.00 and requested a bill, my account balance changed immediately and my (accurate) bill was viewable on line at 2.30.

Sounds like you used the 'Real Time Billing' tool on our website molerat. Usually, bills are available to view within 24 hours so five and a half hours isn't too shabby. :) Glad you find this useful.

  • I signed up to Extra Energy duel fuel Nov 14 on a 12month fix at £75 per month, switch over from EDF went well, i never sent in meter readings and never got a bill, but who wants a bill? after 6 months they rang me for a meters reading and raised my D/D to £83. Its easier enough to work your own enegy usage out by putting your readings into any of the online sites along with your tarrif, i recond i had paid just about enough after 11 D/D payments and stopped the direct debit and moved to Eon which was slightly cheaper, gave my finals readings to EE & Eon and within a couple a weeks got my final bill from EE which said they owe me £13 which was put in my bank a/c 4 days later as promised. Strangely enough tho 10 weeks later a meter reader called from Extra Enegy for a final reading, but to save lots of confusion i refused him entry and off he went on his merry way. I have been with most of energy companies and a part fron nPower everthing as been ok...

Sounds as if you were exceptionally lucky with your experience of EE - especially the rapid final bill and repayment.

In fact, yours is about the only positive report on their service in this entire thread of over 2600 posts (so far)!!!

It's interesting to discover that they have at least one satisfied customer (even if you did leave them after your 12 month fix was over).
  • I must have had some good luck with them (Well after the terrible start). DD was around £35 a month. Suddenly they dropped it to £9 a month which is what I pay now. Thankfully it's probably lower than my actual energy usage so it's me that owes them money, not the other way round.

Still no bill received though and it seems highly likely now that i'm going to have to cancel my contract soon and pay the early exit fee due to moving home

Am moving to SSE because they are cheaper, but can find no fault with EE other than late e-billing.

Got my 3rd final bill today. The account balance is correct and they state they will pay it into my account on 4th April. The final balance is correct but the bill makes no sense. It looks like they have manually randomly added and removed payments until the number at the bottom is correct.

Wouldn't guarantee it will be in your account on the date they state. Mine was a week later and that was 132 days after I closed my account with them.
