Called them up and got the number.

I had emailed them regarding the bill and got a reply back 11 days ago saying the bill will be out in the next 10 days.

Today I enquired about the bill and I was initially told the bill was generated last week and should receive it in the next 7 days.

When I asked the guy for the amount he mentioned that he cannot see any details as the bill was locked. lol.

I knew he was telling porkies.. Come September I move to another supplier.

Ahhh, then I should tell you that on the second page of the bill there's a "lozenge" shaped box. On the left there is an "S" full height. To the right of that there are two rows of numbers. The top line has only 8 numbers but the bottom line says 16 1002 1397 534 (13 numbers I know, but it's the only thing starting with S on the bill).

hmmm... I wonder if the number differs region to region.

    I was given this number S 200 000 2753 662

Okay, I have it now. I believe they mean "Electricity Supply Number" rather than supplier number.

Go to any old bill relating to your corrent home. On this you will find that box I told you about with S to the left. The supply number is "S" followed by the eight numbers in the lower middle box then the three numbers in the lower right box.

Oh I'm moving my account too! Too much hassle.

This morning I called customer service (to be fair didn't wait long to reach a person). Explained that last month and this month I have not been able to submit my gas readings as my meter has "rolled over" and I cannot submit a lower number, and cannot add a "1" to the current number to make it a bigger number. He took my readings and said they would show on the website in about an hour.

Having done my calculations, I seem to be on target to be around the break-even point when I do a flit.

Can't help you with supplier number, unless it's the company registration number which is 8053154.

How to calculate your gas usage:
Subtract previous reading from current reading.
Multiply this number by 2.8317 (if your meter is imperial, if metric miss out this step.
Multiply resulting number by calorific value (39.4813).
Multiply result by meter correction factor 1.02264.
Divide result by 3.6 to convert to KwH.
Multiply times the rate per KwH for gas.

Calculate number of days * standing day rate for gas.

How to calculate your electricity usage:
Subtract previous reading from current reading.
Multiply * rate per KwH for electricity.

Calculate number of days * standing day rate for electricity.

Add all up. Multiply times 1.05 to add VAT.

    (Takes a bow.):j
Just a note on the VAT. My rate as quoted on MyEnergy on the EE website included VAT.

I don't know if this is the case for everyone. Look for

"You'll notice a slight increase in the unit rate and standing charge amount shown above from 9th March 2015. This is a result of some recent portal improvements which means the prices now include VAT at 5%. ...."

below the rate quoted on the site.

Also, there are several websites that will do the calculation for you, e.g.

Very good point, but don't you have to add VAT on the standing charge? (I really have no idea - I just like to get close-ish to knowing where I am each month with my balance, I'm not stressed about getting it right to the penny.)

I started doing the calculation years ago when I was in dispute with Scottish Power for years and claiming hundreds back each year that was overpaid and - I like calculations!

Incidentally, my meter readings have now gone on to the website thanks to the helpful customer service operative.

I did some calculation using the above link and I am approx £120 in credit, which is close to what I was expecting.

Did you say your contract finishes in Setember? The email reply I received to my letter alleging breach of contract helpfully added the fact that my contract finishes on the 20th September. I have counted back the 49 days and circled the calendar so that I know when to start my switch! At present I'm leaning toward Ovo. Not the cheapest but from what I can see more pro-active customer service (on balance).
