Browsing the net whilst bored I came across a little gem from OFGEM re granting licences1.3. Ofgem assesses applications for licences for a number of activities including the supply of gas and electricity. Ofgem does not consider that any check it could perform on a potential licensee at the time its application is being considered will provide continuing comfort about its financial viability once the licensee commences operations. The Application Regulations 2004 do not therefore require applicants to submit financial information or a detailed business plan0

I have been with extra energy for dual fuel since August 2014 and despite several phone calls I am yet to receive a bill, apparently there is a backlog of bills so I don't actually know if I'm on the best deal now or if im in credit/debt. I have also emailed them 3 times using the contact details on website and had no response. So despite them being the cheapest I don't think they can cope, i am still waiting for a call back 2 weeks later. Not sure where I stand if I want to leave?!0

I had the same problem and people on this website helped me by directing me to a website where you can calculate your usage by entering your meter readings at http://www.ukpower.co.uk/ and then take the total away from your direct debit amounts. A lot of people have switched away from EE whilst in credit and stopped the direct debit whilst waiting for a bill. Don't forget you will be using less energy in the summer so you might end up with them owing you money. I switched through the MSE club and will be getting a £30 cash back, which helps pay for any early termination fees they might add to my bill. There is a lot of good advice on this thread if you have time to read back about 10 pages or more! If you decide to switch now then as soon as you get a request from your new supplier for meter readings, cancel the DD with EE.
PS. I think you can switch 49 days before the end of the tariff without any penalty so as you only have 4 months to go it might be worth you hanging on, but you will still have to wait for a bill.Holding back the years...0 -
Here's a question, if you are on a dual fuel tariff with EE, how would it work moving say just the gas to another supplier.
I have found a much better tariff you see, still an unknown company which is also a new set-up, but its cheaper so im fancying a move as EE are full of smells. (They must use a lot of loo role in that office)0 -

I did this with my dual fuel. Left to another supplier for my gas in November and Electricity in December. They will keep you on the dual fuel deal even though you only have one utility left with them. However they will charge you £25 exit fee for leaving early per utility but I am sure you do not need reminding of that.
However never did pay any exit fees.0 -
Belated post, but I wouldn't want molerat's superb detective work to pass without recognition: molerat's post at 1602 is actually one of the most significant to appear on any thread. And yes: I entirely agree with 1602's conclusion. Post-election, I shall be drawing to the attention of my MP the mind-numbing fatuity of OFGEM's conduct and requesting that clarification be now sought from the Secretary of State for Energy. Meantime, if anyone has a spare tenner and fancies setting up a UK gas and electricity supply company, let me know.0

FYI Hern, Extra Energy seem to have acquired their licences in their previous incarnation as Callisto Energy in 2012. E.g.:
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/callisto-energy-supply-limited-notice-grant-electricity-supply-licence
Then at a later date in August 2013 there was a wholesale change of regime: replacement of directors, registered premises and change of name to Extra Energy.

Some very nice detective work there: thanks, hra. Interesting to see that Extra Energy isn't exactly the all-new start-up business as described elsewhere on this thread by its Head of Operations Jo Robertson.
Interesting, too, to note that Companies House has it coded as a 35140, a business engaged in "the trade of electricity", presumably as a result of that August 22 2012 grant of an electricity supply licence to Callisto Energy.
Can't see any Companies House mention of Extra Energy being engaged in the trade of gas, nor its gas supply licence.

Went over to Extra Energy, June 14. Had a bill Nov 14 which charged me for dual fuel useage up to 7 Aug 14. Am now almost £900 in credit and they appear to be unable to send me a bill so I can actually pay what I owe. Countless phone calls have no effect whatsoever. Will leave them when contract expires Sept 15. Appears I have to wait until 'them upstairs' can be bothered to act. Should have had a bill in Feb 15. Not fit for purpose.0

So, is anyone having the same billing problems who has just electric with ee? I'm wondering if, from the above posts, electric is running as it should and it's gas there is a problem with.0
