I know what you mean! I spent ages comparing prices last night. Not helped by the fact I pay EE more than the comparison site says I do. EE still work out cheapest or equal cheapest for me if I compare the individual charges on the tariffs, rather than going by what the site says my annual costs are/will be with various providers.
Think I'm going to stay put for now simply because energy will cost me more if I move or the same with a couple of companies who are unknown/got dodgy reputations like EE!
Also did some comparisons and EE still cheapest for me followed by a few unknown companies followed by Sainsburys. As I am now in debit with EE I am closely monitoring my usage to make sure I don't start going into credit and I will switch when I see that about to happen - I am hoping to make it a full year then I feel that the contract would have been broken by them as I'm sure they have to send a bill at least once a year. Thinking of going back to EDF as although not the cheapest I didn't have any problems with them and there are no exit fees should something better come along.
  • Dear oh dear!

I ran my usage figures through the Cheap Energy Club a few weeks ago and Sainsbury Energy were a substantial saving if I switched from British Gas but reading on here about lots of hassle with Sainsbury.

Had another look today and now Extra Energy are potentially my best saving but more tales of woe with them as well.

I'm going to fix with BG for another year, can't be bothered with the palaver.

Sainsbury's is actually in partnership with British Gas, so why is it cheaper? Its like Plusnet is cheaper than BT but is owned by BT. Do you realise somebody is paid to think up ways of confusing the consumer :(

Yes absolutely right, do not use comparison websites, just go to the company websites copy down their rates per kwh plus the standing charges, compare that with your previous bills and you will have a better idea. I found that the annual amount they quote you and the low DD they start you with always increases after 6 months.

Yikes. EE are already charging me £8a month more than their comparison quote had suggested. If they are going to increase it again i shall definitely want to switch! LOL

The comparison sites show spot on figures for my (accurate) consumption estimate, rounded to the nearest £, and the DD used by EE is 1/12 of that - you must be doing something wrong somewhere.

No need to do that. The comparison sites are accurate. They can only indicate what the energy company DD might be (annual amount divided by 12) but the company may well add (or subtract) something to that if they so wish.

It might also depend on when you switch. Switch DF or Gas Only now and pay 1/12th of the estimated annual charge and you'll be well in credit by November. Switch in November and you'll be in debit by Spring. It's quite possible the companies take this into account - in their favour of course.

Completely off subject. My cat is going in for a scale and polish and a few extractions tomorrow. Perhaps you can see why i need the refund!

Yes. I switched to EE in October, paying £8 more than the comparison said I would. Thought nothing of it as I know it would get refunded and went along believing that the DD could be reduced 'easily' - until I started seeing people having problems getting money back etc!

it just skews the comparison figures that say I'm currently paying £64 when I'm actually paying £72.

As a cat lover I totally feel your pain (pun not intended!). That's not cheap. Hope he/she is OK afterwards. They're very good at feeling sorry for themselves, aren't they?

Thanks for that. Love my two to bits and do not begrudge them one penny. Great company but so very naughty but would not have them another way.

Oh dear I can see someone telling me off now for talking about my two guys.
