Erudio got back to me with what happens if they don't process my form in time for deferment:

"Pleasebe advised that the information that you provided is currently being processedand you will receive a letter in due course. Furthermore, if you make a payment and then are accepted for defermentyou can contact us requesting a refund."

No indication of timescales in the email and an apology of sorts for not sending me deferment forms in good time.

I notice that others are suggesting that SLC should deal with joint loans, e.g Thesis and Erudio. Tried to ask SLC but the numbers are automated and there is no option to speak with a person. However, Thesis did confirm to me that SLC won't touch Erudio now so best to make two applications and be sure its deferred. Don't know if that helps anyone?

Is there any chance of something official on the main MSE website about what to do when you've got joint loans? A guide maybe to how to deal with Erudio?

I've now seen confirmation letters from both SLC and Erudio that SLC should be dealing with cases where loans are held by more than one company.

Thanks Fermi. Do you know how I might be able to contact Student Loans and speak to an actual person for confirmation? The number on SLC deferment form is automated and the one on their website is the same but different number.

Erudio don't need to set a precedent, they've simply chosen to be more strict in their application of the law. If, for example, you jointly own a property with your partner, and you are jointly responsible for the mortgage but your partner pays the mortgage, Erudio are entitled to request evidence of the monthly mortgage amount, half of which will be the level of financial support provided. Same goes for any other expenditure paid on your behalf, e.g. Council Tax.

That can't be right surely? That sounds like they're slightly redefining income a bit. That would mean that if you were living with your parents rent free and earning under the threshold, that they could claim you were over it because of your parents mortgage, council tax and utilities. I can't really see how that kind of thing could be reclassified as part of your income.

In my case they totally are trying to set a crazy new precedent and are claiming that my husband's share of the rent from our old flat that we now let out is all part of my gross income. They claim that it is their policy always to class 100% of rent as the income of the loan holder, regardless of how much would be classed as gross income by hmrc. That seems to me to be setting a new precedent for what's classed as my income.

I still haven't had more than the standard 'we are addressing your complaint' after my, admittedly rather sarcastic, complaint letter. This company just make me so angry with with their incompetence and cynical interpretation of our loan agreements.

They have a number and email for complaints here.

    http://www.slc.co.uk/contact/making-a-complaint.aspx

Insist that you have it treated as a complaint. Don't take no for an answer.

If they prevaricate or try to deny it is up to them, insist.....

    This is 100percent confirmed.

Although it was nice of the SLC and erudio to make this clear to everyone from the beginning! (sarcastic voice)

Sounds like there has been such an almighty screw up over that, that even most Erudio/SLC/Thesis/Honours staff don't know the correct position yet?

Thanks to everyone for helpful info. I've spoken to SLC Complaints today and they were helpful. However, they have confirmed to me it is a separate process for Thesis and Erudio loans. They will only deal with the Thesis loan application for me.

Sorry if this info contradicts what others have confirmed. I know its not good but it does demonstrate we are all being told different info.

I've sent an email asking for clarification in writing if a single deferment process is available to joint loan holders with Erudio. Will update when I hear more.

As said, I don't think even most SLC staff have got the message yet.

One more screw up amongst many.
