You'd have welding machines, engine winches, metal turners, lathes and milling machines in your garage when doing an amateur restoration job?
Jog on son!
You'd be surprised what these people have in their garages or what they have access to through friends in the same boat.

You have to bear in mind that Brewer owns Attaboy TV, so the programmes he sells to TV networks remain his company's property.
This field is very lucrative. Any 'profit' shown to be made is small potatoes compared with the real profits associated with selling a successful programme worldwide.
They'll be clearing £50-100,000 profit per episode -- easily.0 -

<cough> Once my new garage's built, there'll be a lift going in it... It won't enable me to do more. It'll just enable me to do it more easily and comfortably.
And I don't know any professional restorers with plasma welding kit. I know people who do stunningly good bodywork restoration with normal oxy or MIG kit, though.
Once you get beyond a fairly basic set of tools, the difference is all about skill, not toys. Toys make things a bit quicker and easier. No more.0 -

Re. the XR2 episode:
How come Ed still uses a grinder without covering up the paintwork nearby?
All those hot sparks burn into the paint and go rusty, and are a lot of trouble to T-cut out.
He is a God though, I've never seen anyone else spray half a car with an aerosol can and it looks just like the car has been through a bodyshop........
The camera gives a false impression. A crap paint job can look brilliant in the right light, on film or on TV. I think Ed himself would admit that. It is telling they basically always use a paintshop in the later episodes. I avoid mechanics when I can, but few DIYs can match a paint shop.0 -

Bad equipment can make life impossible. It is very difficult to achieve a good results was a bargain basement mig welder.0
