Looks like they're also advertising the cars via the programme website:

"Please note that any potential buyer may be filmed for the television programme. "
By the way isn't it Edd rather than Ed?0 -
TV show embellishes a few bits in the name of entertainment shocker!Dont rock the boat

You'd have welding machines, engine winches, metal turners, lathes and milling machines in your garage when doing an amateur restoration job?
Jog on son!
I used to have a welding machine and an engine hoist, just for diy jobs, I have never restored a car so its not beyond the realms of possibilty that any amateur restorer would have all of the above.
Not sure why the "jog on son" is there0 -
Re the Boxster episode... I absolutely refuse to believe they fixed that completely fubared tiptronic gearbox with just an oil change!
If you believe that episode, the owner was let down very badly by the Owners Group (of which he was a member): not one advised that a simple oil change would fix it
Maybe Porche Owners Group is very very different to the ones I'm in for my carsI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Re. the XR2 episode:
How come Ed still uses a grinder without covering up the paintwork nearby?
All those hot sparks burn into the paint and go rusty, and are a lot of trouble to T-cut out.
He is a God though, I've never seen anyone else spray half a car with an aerosol can and it looks just like the car has been through a bodyshop........I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You'd be surprised, I build and fly radio controlled models and in our hobby it is not unusual for the more prolific builders to have milling machines, lathes, welding, brazing, soldering equipment and even CNC machines for cutting out wood parts, with that in mind, it's not inconceivable that a keen amateur restorer would have such equipment.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Yeah i would be surprised.
In fact I can comfortably say that I'd be incredibly surprised if more than 5% of DIY restorers had the level of equipment required to perform the tasks seen on wheeler dealers on a 'labour free' basis.0 -

I've watch Wheeler Dealers right from the start and I don't think Ed China has ever been portrayed as an amateur DIY'er and yes he does have some very nice kit, however, you would expect an amateur car restorer/mechanic to have stuff like welding equipment, metal working equipment, engine hoist and a decent set of tools as basic equipment, a compressor and some air tools are not out of the question either, along with basic spraying gear and maybe a lathe and milling machine. There are lots of amateur engineers out there that like building, modifying and tinkering with stuff.
As for 'Labour Free' obviously it's not but get real, it's a TV program, it's there to entertain I would imagine Mike and Ed get paid an amount per series rather than an hourly rate.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
I have a compressor and wide range of air tools, three welders (basic arc, MIG and TIG), brazing equipment, a home-made 20ton press, an engine stand and an engine crane, pillar drill, bench grinder, bench polisher, and more besides.
I don't have machining equipment myself, but there are at least three lathes and two miller/drillers within a quarter mile of me in suburban garages which I can use if I need to.
I'm not even a car restorer, just a bloke who likes mending and making stuff. There's more of us out here than you might think.0 -

If they send the car off somewhere for a paint job etc then they do include the costs in the final cost.
yeah cos every home mechanic has a hydraulic lift and plasma welder in there garage dont they"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0
