I'm not too keen on these blockbuster ones that cost an arm and a leg, but we have some wonderful galleries and museums around Merseyside that have small and interesting and usually free exhibitions (Tate Liverpool is mostly exception to the free stuff for their extra exhibitions). And most of them have cafes that do really good tea and Cakes! :j Nice Sunday afternoon outing!
Bet you'd enjoy the Maritime Museum!
There's never been free stuff where I lived. If something's free then people are more likely to go - and then will go more often. Then it becomes part of what they look out for. If you're charged for stuff then it's just offputting.
I don't do tea/cakes. Sitting there, alone, like a billy no mates - and being charged an arm/leg for something that's not part of my usual food groups.
There was a maritime museum about 35 miles from where I used to live. Bl00dy expensive. £11.50 to get in. Add on £12 for fuel/parking .... and it's never going to happen.

For £11.50 I could have had a small lunch in the Yacht Club 50 yards away (omelette and chips for about £3) ... and spent £8.50 on things I wanted/needed from Trago Mills.... and/or maybe even a hot pasty.0 -
Btw I just remembered from our toenail conversation, the podiatrist also recommended tea tree oil. Still did nothing for me.
Generali. Can you get this stuff later on?http://www.healgel.co.uk/pages/about-us.0 -

Well, I was replying on subject of colour blindness, and I thought the review by the colour blind artist might be of interest to Silvercar. I've always been interested in colour theory IYSWIM, and I did really think it would be a fantastic exhibition to go to. Hmm, maybe we'll have to do a day trip on train and use cabs... I'll do a bit of plotting before asking OH!:rotfl:

That's not what you told us yesterday……;)PasturesNew wrote: »I lived in a town that was notorious for young drunks - and stag parties. While standing, middle of the afternoon, at the door of Argos, a group of stags came past me... the stag was wearing a bridesmaid's dress that looked like a big satin pink meringue and he was waggling his willy about in his hand.... and as he passed, you could see he had the rear cut out exposing his butt cheeks.
That was commonplace....0 -

That exhibition was a travelling exhibition - and it came to me (probably a wrong choice of words!).0 -
I used to love the summer exhibition. It was probably my only real art exposure of the year. I'd go to a few other things but my art education is not great tbh.0

POSH ALERT - yacht club!!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
POSH ALERT - yacht club!!
I know .... I bet it's not like that now. This was in the late 90s and was really a "locals with boats" club that'd been around donkey's years. It was a portacabin in the car park..... but it did have a view of the water.
The tables were brown/formica and the lunches were typical "pub grub" served by various volunteer staff.... and I was there based purely on price. You didn't have to be a member, just wander in, order a dinner, sit down and wait for your number to be called.
Bet it's posh now .... the world got gentrified.
I know it was free to wander in .... no membership required. And, I've never even been on a boat (nor known anybody with one) ... it was just cheaper than pie/chips at the chipshop along the road.
I just checked their website - gone are the fish fingers/chips, omelette/chips style of offerings.... it's all gone posh and offers the "usual posh stuff" like "Traditional Beer Battered Local Fish Fillet, Chunky Chips, Crushed Peas, Tartar Sauce & Lemon Salad Garnish" ... and no prices mentioned, so I couldn't afford it.0 -

Oh, I agree - I hate when galleries and museums have compulsory charge. I haven't been to the main Liverpool Museums for ages, but they are free, even their special exhibitions. (apart from Tate Liverpool) Unless major touring exhibition sometimes - I don't get out enough to visit enough to know.PasturesNew wrote: »I don't do tea/cakes. Most of them do other food too, and while more expensive than home catering they don't seem *excessively* expensive to me, given that it takes time and effort to get there (severe lack of energy), and it's nice to at least have a cuppa if one begins to feel a bit faint and feeble. If you ever feel like venturing up North West you wouldn't be billy no mates as we'd show you round as much as you wished. House is a mess, but spare bedroom not too bad (other than the travel cot that currently has to live in it for GS3 visits) and if you could face it, you would be most welcome for a visit to the Best City in the World!

Hmmm, it seems to say that you get a year's ticket for that, but it's a bit steep if you only want to go once. Guess it's a way to milk the tourists? I just checked, and Merseyside Maritime Museum is free.PasturesNew wrote: »For £11.50 I could have had a small lunch in the Yacht Club 50 yards away (omelette and chips for about £3) ... and spent £8.50 on things I wanted/needed from Trago Mills.... and/or maybe even a hot pasty.
I'll let you know the going rate for stuff at our local galleries and museums next time I visit one... Have plans to go to the Lady Lever Gallery soon as there's an exhibition of pictures by Rossetti of Jane Morris on currently that I really want to see.
Just found their menu online... I think it's on a par for most cafes, though the wine is much cheaper than I'd expect from a restaurant. (even if it's carp!)
