Just back from a quick foray .... and bought:
- two packing boxes
- a cordless screwdriver (for the flatpack furniture/Ikea shelves I expect to buy)
- one of those kitchen slicing 'machines' (mandolin?)
- a shredder, that also shreds cards/CDs/DVDs.

I have never resorted to buying packing boxes.

I wasn't going to buy boxes, but they had them at 2 for £3 and as many of my other boxes are free ones (that don't seal as they've not tops etc) I figured it'd make sense to get a couple of "proper big boxes" to make sure that the stuff packs easily. The overall objective is to make the pile of stuff being moved look "easy and small" so I don't get a daft/high quote .... it'll make the pile look neater/easier for them to load onto the van.
I've managed with manual screwdrivers, but I'm planning on getting 2-3 of those open pine bookcases, which I've always put together with screwdrivers before .... only one day, just as I was finishing, I had a couple of screws that were really not going in .... and the builder I had in just pressed his screwdriver to them and they were in within 3 seconds... so I figured "I'll get one of those"
I'd have to buy a sharp kitchen knife, which'd probably cost more - and I'm quite dangerous with sharp things. I currently do all my peeling/cutting/slicing with a 65p paring knife, although I did buy a pack of 3-4 knives from the Poundshop some time back. I've just always been intrigued by these things and how quickly they'd slice spuds and ... er, other things I've yet to discover.
Yeah, scissors, but I've got a backlog of paperwork I've been dragging around .... so it's nice to just shove it in a slot.
So my luxury spends cost me: £3 for boxes, £26 for shredder, £5 for slicer, £15 for electric screwdriver.... which I'll also take to my sibling's house in case there's any little things she's ignored.0 -
Showed very high self control today, particularly around not eating ice cream sunday at the first wimpy I've found since childhood... found it on a fast day.
PN, that's a cute story:) I think it was very brave of you going somewhere you were that squeemish about.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Just got the box out, see what I bought ... 5 interchangeable attachments: grater, slicer, fine shredder, coarse shredder, julienne insert. For use with vegetables, fruit, chocolate and hard cheese.
That means I can grate my cheese, slice spuds thinly quickly ... and make coleslaw. Also grating/slicing carrots.
I've always wanted to make coleslaw, but could never face standing and grating an entire cabbage, then the carrots, then the onions ... with a cheapo box grater.0 -

Gen, when do you have your follow up appts?0 -
What's your budget for knives PN? I bought a couple of Victorinox knives, which I think are really good value, but might be a bit pricey.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

I'd love it to be that long, particularly as he's got 'form' for this, but I bet they don't dare.PasturesNew wrote: »For now, Plan A is: Move in, get the telly turned on, Pepsi in the fridge, find the best position for the garden lounger, get online.

Was this in the original contract? They can't charge it if you weren't given notice of it at that point.0 -

I've got a couple of them ... and I did buy a pack of knives for £1 from Poundland that haven't even been used.
I've never used a big/sharp knife - and it'd be lethal for me to try (dyspraxia) ... so I stick with what's safe. Especially as "one slip" and there's nobody to notice .....0
