I'm having chamomile tea which is nice. I don't think it helps or hinders TBH but it's nice and that's no bad thing.

    That's a very dodgy hug.

It's technically a group hug. I'm 51% sure that I'm 95% certain they're about 3.5% less dodgy than genuine dodgy hugs.;)

Mint activates cold receptors which is why it cools the skin, gums, teeth in toothpastes shower gels whatever. Also stimulates the cold receptors in the bladder and makes you wee which is irrelevant but gives you the excuse to drink something cool again.

I have mint chewing gum which stings a lot which is putting me off. I'll give it a go though.

That "stings a lot" phrase worries me - is it the physical abrasion of the chewing gum or the chemicals in it? I love mint (apart from the mint naan bread I had at a recent birthday meal).

Also check the sugar content. I've a horrible feeling some mint drinks are practically watered-down mint jams.

I'm sure my fears are laughable. Aus is probabaly saturated with unusual exotic drinks with flavours like mint and bumble-bee, or butterfly and chilli and whatever, from an assortment of more adventurous pacific rim nations than our pathetic palate would entertain.
Gen, I'm so taken with Zag's new and improved dodgy hug, I'm nicking it:

Well nick it quick before the thread closes and you can't use it again!

It seems to be both. There's the abrasion from the gum's coating and then something in it. Once it settles down it's quite soothing though.

Aussies are lovers of the soft drink: we're not the fattest rich country for nothing (Go Aussie! ). Combine that with mass immigration from all over Europe and the Pacific and a highly urbanised population and you get a lot of soft drinks on the shelves.

Playing catch up, so please excuse multi quotes.

Unlike Viva's recent research, which was trying to prove a Royal connection.... all mine's doing is yielding a list of workhouses and jails.... and hundreds of little b4st4rds.

Ah, that's because it's my friend's family not mine. Mine totally involves workhouses and the like.

Nearly there Gen... do soft drinks help? Can we have an NP virtual party later to celebrate it being over for you?

I'm on tablet and can't do any type of dodgy hugs, let alone Zag's impressive Hokey Cokey ones, but sending them anyway, even if you can't see them.

    Up late or early viva?

Lots and lots of water helps, I'm drinking gallons of the stuff. I reckon to go through 1-1.5l just between bed time and getting uo the next morning. Cold, cool or room temperature makes no difference. Wine gets rid of the horrible taste in my mouth. I probably shouldn't drink (although nobody has told me not to).

TBH I haven't really fancied soft drinks since my mouth got bad.

I must admit that I'm struggling to eat now. It's mid afternoon and I've not eaten anything yet. I'm about to have luke warm soup but I'm forcing it down.

Anyhoo, almost there. Then I'll gradually start getting better. That's the bit I'm really looking forward to.

Hurrah.... maybe we should have an NP sit in for your last appointment :)
Nobody's allowed to go to bed/sleep until you're back....

As much as I'd love to, I've got one of those pesky job thingies. Not sure why, but they seem to prefer it when I don't nap in the office :)

So close now Gen. Only one more session to bear then hopefully the burns can start to heal up.

As Lydia said, looking forward to hearing more about those plans. Esp now Mrs. Gen her her job, sounds like a good opportunity to reassess.

Umm, you're not the fattest rich country! That seems to be Mexico, for some definition of rich, or the USA. Oz is a great country.

Chamomile tea is supposed to be soothing. DW swears by the stuff, as well as mint tea. Mint tea is nice if made with fresh mint, and I have a little plantation I am nurturing in the garden. By nurturing, I mean that I haven't killed it yet. Not really enough there to start harvesting yet, though.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Getting better. How often we as humans say "get better soon" without considering the magnitude of the task in hand? So pleased that you have turned the corner towards recovery and we can soon celebrate being around a Gen with no radiation burns and able to eat and enjoy whatever you like. Not long now.

In answer to your question, up early. This time of year I wake early with the sun and also go to bed early as a rule. In winter I have trouble dragging my butt out of bed in the dark. I could buy curtains with blackout linings, but then I'd never wake up. DH leaves for work at 5 30 each morning, so getting up early is the norm in this house.

Twinings do a delicious camomile tea with honey. I can highly recommend, or a small spoon of honey added to a standard cup. Yummy.
