GRRRRRR!!!!! A damned autodialler has called me 11 times today, same London spam number every time (it is listed as a spam no on several websites) including at 8.30am waking me up. P*ssed off. Have had to disconnect my phone. So much for being registered with the TPS.

Yesterday morning I snuggled back down to sleep after OH had left for work. I had had a bad night and fully expected sleep for a couple of hours.

8.30 am I was woken by knocking on the front door. So answered the door in my dressing gown looking very dishevelled.

The gentleman at the door wanted directions to somewhere in the village

I was polite and gave teh directions, he required a series of explanations but I was

As I was up - I showered and got dressed.

You're confusing me. I've recently started reading some of the MFW board, and for a moment I thought I was over there! ;)

Well done on overypaying, anyway. Have you played with the calculators to see how much you can save that way?

I've worked out that rounding my monthly payment up to the nearest £100 will take a couple of years off (only an extra £30ish a month). The ad hoc overpayements are just helping me creep towards the next £1000 on the countdown or another % equity etc etc. I'm only allowing myself to overpay with 'bonus' money e.g. cashback, my bonus from work etc. Anything else I manage to save is going into savings (rainy day + for work to be done on the house).

Well done on being able to express your anger, it's something I still don't know how to do.

Considering you are such a stick insect I don't suppose there is much breath for anyone to see...

I hope the boiler saga is now definitively solved.

That's very funny to me as I get grief for expressing my annoyance far too readily.

    Expressing is, IMO vital.

Sometimes how we do it isn't that productive or helpful , but keeping doing it really is.

I think its a bit difficult. If you didn't express you'd not be communicating your feelings, which would be a poor choice.

If you want to ride a bike regularly and stay free of injury then the main thing to remember is to keep your cadence up: it's much better to ride in an easier gear than feels natural and have your legs spinning faster than to have to push hard against the pedals.

Your legs should be spinning at about 60-90rpm. The easiest way to check that is to get a free 1 day pass for a gym and get on one of the static bikes and then just see what different cadences feel like. Then after a couple of months riding on the road, pop back to the gym to check that you're still in the right kind of area.

The best thing about cycling as exercise is that you can't give up and go home half way through. If you've cycled 10 miles out then you pretty much have to cycle the 10 miles back again!

Thanks for the advice, Generali. I'm taking it slow at the moment; I spent yesterday relearning how to mount and dismount the bike, and I spent today practicing breaking and gears.

So far I've been going about five meters at a time.

At this stage I think that I'm really basically learning how to ride again. My prior experiences were on a very much more basic bike with different (wider) tires and no gears to speak of, and even the mounting style you need for this bike is a different style than I am used to.

There's a heck of a learning curve at the moment for me, that's for sure, but it should be worth it at the end of the day :)

I'm going to try cooking a beef fillet in a new to me way. Its only a tiny end, just for me, because it am alone and am using one of my kept aside meals for tomorrow for a special occasion and I've decided beef suits.

I'm also considering making a cake. I am trying to decide whether to use a bantam egg and make a tiny cake, or whether to just make a normal sized cake and stick it in the freezer.

The weather is beautiful today. I am watching a tit on the bird feeder outside the open kitchen door and I did the first grass cut to day. It could have waited but it does look better. Lilacs are properly in flower bud now too. Lilac really seems to mark the beginning of proper doors andwindows staying open weather here.

Tom, I'm so impressed. You might just be thinking of health, but I have to tell you, I find the simple and sensible approach you have taken rather attractive qualities too.

Thank you, I appreciate you saying it.:D

I wish I could - the kids do not understand how cross I am getting when they continually play up as I clearly don't show it :(

I did half the grass a few weeks ago but the whole lot is now out of control, my hay fever is extremely bad so I am pretty much a prisoner indoors and having to take anti-histamine which I find work extremely effectively...but only as sleeping pills.
    I think....

    NP advice time.

DD1 and 2 are to do a scholarship auditon for the local drama school and have been asked to prepare a monolgue up to 2 minutes long. Any suggestions? They coudl obviously both do someithing cutsey from Matilda or similar but I'm thinking it might make more impression if they did something less 'type-cast' for cute girls.

    Any suggestions?

Your daughters should select a monologue that says something that your daughters believe in, that matters to them, and which they can say with sincerity and belief.
