I know nothing of curtains etc.... when I get the keys I'll go in and look at the pole to see what sort of deal it is ...

So, in the meantime, I'm looking for "cheap things to put up at the main window" and for £26, this would do: http://www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/aqua-pacific-voile-panel-58745

But then I realise, it doesn't show you the "fixings" end in the photo, so I can't guess how one of those might be attached (apart from with gaffa tape).

Did you read the reviews on colour? Its cream not white as it appears, so against your will be white walls might look a bit dingy?

Just looked at the logistics of a potential Nikkster visit (no pressure, just my OCD for being nosey and checking things/comparing)...

Driving is 2.5 hours, Google's quickest route.
Train is 4 hours and lots of changes.

    Trains suck don't they.

Yep in this country they do. Having the hub in the corner of the country doesn't help. 50 miles from the bottom of a 700 mile long Island's a big detour if you're trying to get from the South Midlands to the mid-South Coast as directly as possible. God knows how you get from Newcastle to Penzance in a hurry.:(

I suppose the rail layout in France is as bad, but at least their trains really move.

Being near a good route was pretty crucial in our search. Ever since the employers rumble about moving out of The City to the Docklands which would make Mondays and Fridays pretty awkward for a few people.

NDg, Kermie sounds like a very sweet nickname an conjurs up images. I love the names parents choose to call their children, it's usually something weird and wonderful. My children's nicknames are Crispy and Dilbert.

No, just stacking up urls really, for ideas.

Saving all my "finds" in my keep.google.com account for easy access, so when I get to the "I'll buy now" stage I can start from the list of stuff I already found.

Current walls are a sort of cream. I'll only paint them white when they need doing.... "if it ain't broke" and all that; of course I won't know how I feel about that until I'm holding the keys.

I'm really using it as a learning exercise for "what's out there, what's it cost, who does it, what are the names they call things".

PN, the description on the voile panels says how they are hung - they will go with rod, track or wire. It has header tape and drawstrings. So you could either thread the pole through it, or buy curtain rings for the pole and hooks to hang off.

We all go through this. I have a couple of trips exchanging curtain paraphenalia at Dunelm, dpotted with trips to Ikea to see what comparable stuff they do.

Well, to be fair, there's not a lot in Penzance. Options would probably be: two airplanes .... or the overnight sleeper train from London.

Just looked it up, fly Newcastle to Newquay, then take the bus to the station, then take the train 15 miles and change for Penzance. Newquay to Penzance is about 35 miles.

Alternative is fly Newcastle to Bristol, then get the train to Penzance (200 miles).

PN, I caught the tail end of My Last Summer - it was episode 2. I was intrigued so I watched episode 3. Oh my. It wasn't sad, it was awful.

I felt so bad, that they had such unrealistic expectations of her and that he couldn't make peace with the idea of dying. It was undignified, painful, desperate. She was so honest and her grief so raw. The poor woman :(

DW forgot to watch it and I was going to show it to her on 4OD. After that review, I think I will give it a miss.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Cheers. I guess some descriptions are "full" and some just say "Voile" "Buy it?"

I think Dunelm is about 8 miles, Ikea is about 20.... in opposite directions, although there is probably a Dunelm closer to Ikea than that which I'd discover if I looked.

There was some "news item" in the week... where somebody had plotted the cost of season tickets -v- average house prices and then added up the total of ticket+mortgage and plotted the results in colour on a map, so you could quickly see where ticket+mortgage is cheaper/cheapest.

e.g. one area had ticket+mortgage at £2500/month, whereas another had it at £1500/month.

However.... I did some googling and could never find this map online. Maybe it's findable now, as a few days have passed.
