There are a few other villages with random information like that which I've come across - there are a couple, for example, where vicars added extra comments to the baptisms, marriages and burials registers, far beyond the information which was necessary. They are great, too.
I wish they'd all done it! Love that stuff.0 -

I also think women are charged far too much - cutting my hair's easy, just a straight line along the bottom. Men's hair looks harder work, to me!
No no. It's all very well if you have it long and just want the ends trimmed - and I agree that if your hair is like that then women's prices are a rip-off - but lots of us have way more complicated haircuts than that. Any kind of short hair that's supposed to be feminine is always complicated to cut - layered, wedged etc.
Men's hair is easy. For DS (and before him LNE) I just do the clippers all over at the desired setting, with a bit of tidying up round the ears and back of neck, and a quick go round the edges with the clipper on a slightly shorter setting. My dad's hair is even easier - bald on top, horseshoe round the edge, even I can do a reasonable job with scissors if I've forgotten to bring the clipper guards when I go to see him. OTOH, there's no way in a million years that anyone of my level of expertise could make anything other than an unmitigated disaster of trying to do the kind of cut I like for my own hair. I'm sure lir will be along in a while to say that her hair is way more complicated than men's hair too.Emla's little brother is working very well thanks. Especially in combination with painkillers.
V glad to hear that. Hope it carries on working.
ETA is Emla the stuff they use in hospitals and tell kids is "magic cream"??Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I didn't realise he was going for a switch. What was wrong with this course? What has he moved to? Hope this one works out. As far as funding is concerned, generally you are allowed the length of your course plus one year, so he should be OK. The deadline for applying for new courses is soon or may have even passed. So to guarantee the loan/ grant will be in place at the beginning of term you need to move quickly.
He was bored with it, they were still doing the same stuff that he had been doing in 6th form. Plus, he realised that his career potential wasn't great as he wants to be a teacher and the vacancies available for the degree he was doing was really quite tiny.
He has switched to psychology and sociology (another 2 of his A levels) and his deadline for finance is fine, this switch has been underway for quite a few weeks now...or so he assures me!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
So muggy last night ... it's rained overnight though. Still muggy with an edge of fresh.0

Who won, then?
Netherlands. They beat Spain 1-5, which is quite a spectacular margin in football where the scorelines are normally much lower. Spain were one of the pre tournament favourites, but looked distinctly average. Holland looked in great form and will be very hard to beat.
Holland have two of the best players in the world in Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben, and with their teammates they thoroughly dismantled Spain.
The first Van Persie goal was stunning.
In other news that NP may find more interesting, a look into household insurance claims has found Chihuahuas the most destructive dogs and Staffies the least, with Chihuahuas causing about 5x as much insurance damage as Staffies. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The first RVP goal was fantastic.
I thought Holland looked pretty mediocre in the first half. Then their first was a blinder, the second was a nice strike.
The third was scrambled in at the far post by a defender who has never previously scored. Then Spain gave up. They should be ashamed of their efforts in the last 15 minutes. I'd be livid if The Boy's team gave up like that. Champions? Mon cul.
I've had the house to myself today. I've watched 3 matches (the Aussies, Spain falling apart and the Mexico v Cameroon game) and given the kitchen a spring clean. Roast lamb leg for dinner with chocolate fondant for pudding. Nice.0 -
Well done, PN. One big step closer!
And well done NIkkster. you get used to presenting, bit by bit.
I am lobster coloured. Went to a valley inside London, looks idyllic, no buildings visible from inside it. Like an oasis in what's meant to be an overcrowded city. Never noticed it was there. What a find!
Would you mind sharing the location of this oasis, please? Have you been to the Wandle Valley, btw?
There are a few like that. My guess is that the Victorians were far too sensible to build on flood plains, so they turned them into parks. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
