I see what you mean. I have to admit I've never thought about it in that kind of detail. Astrophysics is not my forte really. I will ask the department's astronomy expert and get back to you.

I wonder if it has something to do with the distinction between stuff moving through pre-existing space, and stuff getting further apart without moving because the space in between is expanding???

The department all agree that the point about space expanding rather than stuff moving is the crucial bit. The astro expert added that nobody understands how or why the rapid expansion happened anyway.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

If you've lived in London they're amazingly cheap and its all branded goods. B&M are meant to be similar but I've no experience of them.

... lived in London? I couldn't tell you how/where to find Buck House if I were ... well anywhere in London (including standing next to it). Not a Londoner :)

    I also looked up B&M - 40 miles away.

Maybe it's the secret of perpetual motion... maybe the Big Bang was created by a previous black hole that swallowed up the previous universe and then reached a tipping point that made it turn inside out and explode again :)

.... not so crazy as it sounds either..... a constant sucking in/exploding out perpetual motion.

Speaking of stewardesses after what I've read on other threads here, I'll never use the kettle in a room in a hotel that airline staff use. The worrying thing is I almost certainly have.

Ah, neither will somewhat someone close to me and they work with them... If you're worried, wash it, put fresh water in, boil it, wash it again, put fresh water in again, boil it again, inspect it, then put more fresh water in it, boil it and finally drink from it when you are absolutely sure that nothing could live in it.

Cherry ice cream is very good if you have a lot of cherries.

It's great with chocolate cake as the acceptable face of black forest gateau.

There is no acceptable face of black forest gateau. It's vile. As is cherry ice cream.

I'm not too far off quite frankly. I must have woken 5 times last night and that's pretty much a nightly occurrence. It probably doesn't help that I do a very stressful, highly visible job. Most of what I do ends up with board members one way or another.

The permitted valium substitute is big deep breaths. Not really the same thing.

Oh b*gger. What about medical vodka or wine or some such?

I'm glad the first session went ok. Was thinking of you a lot today and wondering how it went.

More cherry-based treats for the rest of us then viva :)

Did you see/ hear the news reports today about some clinical trials on treatments for melanoma? Early days, but they sound very promising.

... I've just discovered that I'm near a Home Bargains! Currently about 4 miles, but will be about 2 miles..... I need to get down there and see what all the fuss is about as I've never been in one.
In the centre of inner herts we are sadly underserved with Home Bargains, B&M, Aldi and Lidl - you have to head towards Viva or CK to find those sorts of establsihments...

In 100 years some big scientist will discover this ... and be acclaimed with its discovery ... and a further 200 years into the future somebody will discover an old archive of this thread and hail me as a genius beyond my years for having discovered it 100 years before the scientists did .... :)

It'll then be known as the PN Theory.

I've never heard of Home Bargains. Where's one of those round here? Similarly no nearby Lidl (until the Battle of Berkhamsted 2014 is won anyway). And there is an Aldi in Hatfield...
