That feels like "somewhere else" .... and is a "generally a bit of a posh destination"
There are flights, but if you've already suffered the overnight sleeper train you might as well go the whole hog of discomfort and get the 3 hour journey boat.

And a bit of posh .... http://star-castle.co.uk/
And a lot of traveling time for the length of break well be likely to get.
Anyway, might all be moot. I'm going to see how it goes, I do not want to set myself up for disappointment tbh. I might be told I can go anywhere soon, or that I cannot even make it to ...I dunno, Leamington Spa.0 -
Nowadays, I tend not to thinkdof chocolate, but of employers who used to care about their workers and provided homes and communities. Specifically Rowntrees in York, Saltaire in Bradford and Bournville in Birmingham. All very beautiful sought after areas to live.
Such a shame this level of caring has been lost. Instead, we get flat pack houses that can be erected easily with no consideration of the services and infrastructure that need to be in place for a community to grow and thrive.
There's a lot of "work accommodation" that's disappeared over the years. Many schools used to have staff houses, police stations would have police houses .... all gone.
A factory where I used to live built some houses in the 1920s to accommodate some of their (increasing) staff..... 3 bed semis, now selling for £300k0 -

If you do go to Royal Leamington Spa (birthplace of my bro), let me know. I can stay nearby and gatecrash your days out0 -

micheals i am so pleased to read that you are doing this.
Where are you off to and when?0 -
Cape Town in the winter, being MSE we are flying BA via Amsterdam to Heathrow which is cheaper than direct in economy....other holiday is a week at my parents in Devon this summer but that does feature a private pool.....I think....0

Lydia - just tried to send you a private message but your inbox is full.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I love that neck of the woods. I lived for a very brief while (a few months) in Kenilworth. I also stayed there regularly when I was doing my MBA as it is very handy for Warwick Uni.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Generali, just wanted to say that I'm glad first radiotherapy session went relatively OK. Hope that tomorrow's session goes easier despite lack of valium.
And to let you know that every day I sit in our front porch for a while looking at our garden and listening to the birds and watching the bees buzzing around in the flowers..... And I send good vibes to you in a distant land.I send the vibes every day, and will continue to do so as long as they are needed. We hope to get off to caravan in Bwlchtocyn sometime soon, so I'll be sending the vibes while looking at a different garden, or if we're weather lucky while I look at the light playing on Snowdon.
You're going through difficult times at present, so I hope you can find something to help you through - chocolate pudding or wine?
Look after your spoons as suggested by someone else (sorry, can't remember who now) but you might also like to take a look at Pacing as used by ME/CFS patients if you feel you are running out of energy. Though the latest is Pacing and Switching... Stop doing before you need to, then Switch to a different energy mode. eg if doing something needing mental energy (writing, reading) swap to doing something more restful (maybe listening to music, watching daft TV - deffo not something like the News) for a while. Perhaps have total rest time in the mix too, or meditation time if you do that. This is a very poor overview, but best I can manage right now!
Vibing away here in Liverpool!
Hugs too. :grouphug:0 -
Three hours I'll never get back... running every conceivable virus and malware scan to ensure my computer won't go into meltdown in two weeks time. .... not so crazy as it sounds either..... a constant sucking in/exploding out perpetual motion.
An infinite series of big bangs and big crunches is one of the current possible theories. Although the crunch wouldn't be stuff going into a black hole surrounded by empty space, but the space itself crunching down to nothingness.Nowadays, I tend not to thinkdof chocolate, but of employers who used to care about their workers and provided homes and communities. The Cadbury, Rowntree and Fry families (and others, I expect) were all Quakers. Caring for their staff was part of their faith-based ethics.Lydia - just tried to send you a private message but your inbox is full.
Thanks. Sorry. Have cleared space now.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
