We sang it at our wedding, with the rugby connotation and being in Elgar country. Ok, maybe more the rugby connotation. We had red roses and the tables were named after our world cup winning heroes. 10 years in May.
Jerusalem was my old (local state comprehensive) school song. Never understood why, particularly as it was in Wales.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. That's posh silvercar. My school didn't have a school song. Given that I was at my comprehensive in the mid-late 70s, it would probably have been Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting if they did. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We had a school hymn and a school song.
I can't for the life of me remember the hymn. I've just been trough an entire hymn book index trying to remember and failed.
The school song is sung so fast that you can't take adequate breath and has to be sung so high that only dogs can hear it.
"Within these walls have great men lived and laboured to keep our church and country free. Let us follow in their footsteps, Pro Ecclesia Dei..." ad infinitum. I met a woman a few years ago who ran a course for us at Lloyds who had gone to the same school. The delegates arrived to us trying to sing itEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It really wasn't posh at all.
An enormous school for it's day. Had a 14 form intake each of up to 30 pupils, about 400 in each year, 2500 in the school altogether. I was there 1975-82. We had a school hymn that was set to the music of 'For all the saints' but with different words. 'Oh lead us looooord, in all we learn to dooooo' think I could probably remember the whole thing.
It wasn't posh, but it certainly wanted to be!
When we were in the sixth form we had to sit on the stage in assembly, and used to stand on the front row and belt out all the words. This got us noticed, and we became informally known as the 'Headmasters singers' fun times.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
We had love divine for some o secure reason not sung to the normal tune but something making it sound quite Welsh not sure why in a 70s Hampshire comp.
I think god save the queen is a great English song...the sax pistols version of course.
Left work in central London just after 5. By 6.45 had scorex a ticket, got home, fixed computer, heated and served dinner and dropped dd1 off at stage door and am now watching her sing nd play recorder. Just a shame she is standing behind the tall fat girl in her class.....I think....0 -
We didn't have either a school song or hymn. It was an all girls' grammar school, but was pretty relaxed. A lot more relaxed than the boys' grammar school!0

My boarding school was a very religious C of E establishment, with a chapel service every morning and twice on Sundays. The school motto is In Fide Vade 'Go Forth in Faith'.
You didn't have to be C of E to attend the school, but if you weren't C of E you had to go to chapel and religious education lessons anyway, so almost everyone was.
I just looked up the current fees for it - £34k a year! Bloody hell....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
For those with a lot of reading you can train yourself to read superfast.

Normal reading speed is 250-ish words per minute; with this it seems easy to increase this to 600wpm.
Try it out, 'click above to learn how to spritz', and increase the wpm speed bit by bit.
