If it is more important to do the modelling one, could you pick up the Ariely one again later in the year?
If I start the modelling one I'm sure I'll realise quite quickly that it's way too difficult for me!
I'm quite enjoying the Ariely lectures - though they don't add a huge amount to what I've read so far in the book. I'm not doing any of the extra reading, just watching the lectures and taking the tests (not quite a complete sponge as I'm still thinking critically about what he's saying). Plus I think I need to remind myself that I can complete a course of study0 -
I find this quite a simple way to do it because a simple click on the 'Thanks' button to someone I speak to most days says far more than:
"Thank you person [who hasn't spoken to me for 28 years] from Facebook. Your previous utter lack of concern of any part of my adult life until now shows a huge and hitherto unrecognised deeply loving relationship. I look forward to us ignoring each other other for another few decades except your occasional requests to help me advance you to another level on a computer game".
In said person's defence, the facebook games do send requests automatically, he is not using you for games and not relating to you in any other way.
Also when you hear via facebook or elsewhere that someone you haven't interacted with for decades is in need of support, is it terrible to make brief contact? Or would you rather they didn't bother?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Quick in and out - nearly had a house to view ..... house had been sold, but buyers had pulled out. I phoned up and made appointment for this afternoon .... and only then started researching it fully .... found it on streetview, saw the last (now dead) owner sitting outside .... awww .... but I didn't fully inspect the photo ....
Then did other research: got all the room sizes/layouts/plans of that house and all others like it that'd sold etc. Compared layouts/prices/sizes, etc etc .... thought about whether walls were load bearing, whether I could reconfigure it so the 2nd bedroom was bigger than the 5'9" it is at present ... wondered about getting an en-suite in the main bedroom as others had done ... thought about time/costs of doing that compared to buying another that's for sale already done ....
Then I had another look on streetview and something occurred to me - he'd sold the garden to a neighbour! House only had a 3' strip round 2 sides.... I want space for a shed at least! ... and a conservatory ....
So phoned and cancelled.
It had some things going for it .... that others haven't.... but still not enough going for it. It was cheap though .... now I see why. It's probably overpriced compared to others.... bearing in mind the work required and loss of amenity.0 -

I'm a big fan of The National's song "England":beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

He covers that - ""There'll always be an England". Well, that's not saying much, is it? I mean, there'll always be a North Pole, if some dangerous clown doesn't go and melt it."...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I love "Jerusalem". Doesn't sound very English initially to the outsider.
We sang it at our wedding, with the rugby connotation and being in Elgar country. Ok, maybe more the rugby connotation. We had red roses and the tables were named after our world cup winning heroes. 10 years in May.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Regarding Flanders and Swann, I like the Armstrong and Millar parodies of them. Not going to post a link to them as they're not family material. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
