Good luck with the next test, Gen. I suppose at some point they will have done all the diagnosing and can then start the treatment. until they reach that point they won't know the best treatment?

Happy Birthday Nikks! We all get bad birth-days.

Thanks silvercar, and everyone else who has sent greetings since I last said thanks :)

As I said before, I wasn't even particularly bothered about the change in age - it wasn't a 'big' birthday. I'm feeling back to normal now.

lir - sorry to hear about your parent's yesterday. Hope they aren't too shaken up.

Gen - every best wish being sent in your direction. Hope it all goes well.

michaels - I'm well aware that there are many advantages to being single, and am happy to enjoy them the vast majority of the time. Ultimately, I'd rather not be single though, and it's difficult to get around that feeling.

doozergirl - double checked last night and yes, my house does have an RCD

Will clear some space in my pm box (:D) and see you all again later today :)

Many reasons.... too many/long to even start a post here about it....

What i meant to say was:

Is it essential that you go? From what you have posted, it doesn't look like there is anyone that you really want to see, so is it worth making the journey? Would a phone call or letter do instead?

While younger.... the older you get the more permanent the move is likely to have to be.... and then there's the balance of "who is going first" as that's got the potential for somebody to be left alone in a furren country.

Some people say I overthink things......

You can't live your whole life planning your old age and departure.

I guess if the other went first, the remaining has a choice of staying in the country that they will by now be acclimatised to or going "home".

Not if they're 80+ and frail, with a host of other problems.

My mother who died in '93, is still in the sideboard because I have absolutely no idea where to put her.

If you don't decide, who will?

My friend mother died overseas. friend went there to clear the house and found a room dedicated to the mother's second husband, including the ashes! Second husband wasn't friend's father and there had been a fallout between her and the children of the second husband. She didn't want to inform them that her mother had died. I suggested she ship the ashes back home and send them on to the family when the dust has settled (bad joke). But she didn't want any communication at all and never intended telling them her mother had died. So she was stuck with these ashes of a guy who had been married to her mother in later years, for not very long, with family himself and no real connection to her. So they came to her house and eventually she scattered them in the sea near a town where he had first lived.

Good question silvercar. If ever I live anywhere I actually want to live in, and therefore plan to stay, I'll put her in the garden. That's the vague plan. In theory, I'm planning to move in about 3 years, though who knows what will happen in that time.

When our daughter did her undergraduate degree she had to take the loans. Our deal was that if she completed the degree we would pay them off, if she did not she had the debt. We paid it off when she graduated. We had always paid for education we just wanted to shift the risk/reward more towards her as part of learning about life.

The only exception was that one year she had taken a maintenance loan...whilst living at home, her car/holidays being paid for by us etc and having a reasonable income from a part time job...we thought this taking the micheal and agreed it was her decision to take it and she would pay it back.

She paid her MA fees herself from income/savings. She never asked us...and we never offered:)

OH did a deal, they take the loans and how much we pay off depends on how well they do. so 1st gets 100% paid off, 2.1- 75%, 2.2- 50%, 3 - 25%, anything else gets nothing.

So in theory we should have paid 75% off of DS1's loan. But I said there was no point until he had at least started working properly (the loans are structured so if you never earn decent money, you never pay anything). Now he has started working, I am saying wouldn't he rather have the money as a deposit on his first home. But he has no intention of buying at the moment so disagrees.

This adds the moral dilemma, DS2's loan will be greater because tuition fees are now £9k a year not £3k. Offering the same financial incentive to work hard seems fine, but offering that the money can be used as a first home deposit creates an inequality.

    Do you remember University ?

Washing and changing clothes EVERY day

P.S. Just visited oldest SS at Uni and I can confirm that nothing has changed.

I remember as the term went on becoming less fussy about how many times something had been worn. 'Cleanest' rather than 'clean' was what I looked for.

I did have a shower or a bath at least once a day though. We had the most amazing baths in our halls of residence. They were about 6ft long and deep enough that if I sat bolt upright I could have water up to my chest.

Add free, unlimited hot water and away you go. I used to wedge a matchstick under the plug and have the water running in as a trickle. That way I could spend an unlimited period of time in a hot bath. That with a couple of ice cold Gins and IT and a close friend was a splendid way to spend time. :grouphug:

I was spoilt as a fresher. The girls outnumbered the boys substantially too.:T
